Prophecy

2 Peter 1:19-21 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: (20) Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. (21) For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. (KJV)

Thayer’s definition for ‘prophecy’:

4394  propheteia- prophecy:

a) a discourse emanating from divine inspiration and declaring the purposes of God, whether by reproving and admonishing the wicked, or comforting the afflicted, or revealing things hidden; especially by foretelling future events

b) Used in the New Testament of the utterance of Old Testament prophets

1) used of the prediction of events relating to Christ's kingdom and its speedy triumph, together with the consolations and admonitions pertaining to it, the spirit of prophecy, the divine mind, to which the prophetic faculty is due

2) used of the endowment and speech of the Christian teachers called "prophets"

3) the gifts and utterances of these prophets, especially of the predictions of the works of which, set apart to teach the gospel, will accomplish for the kingdom of Christ

Prophecy in the simplest way of putting it means to speak under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Yes, although it does speak for future events, keep in mind that many of the Old Testament prophets spoke of a Messiah that would come and bring salvation to a fallen world. Now it is the duty and responsibility of the New Testament teachers to point the people toward the Messiah that has come and all that we have available to us through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. But once again leave it up to man to turn something so simple as prophesying, teaching the people who they are in Christ and what is available through Him, into a fortune telling show, something you would expect to see at a carnival and not in a church. So while many of these self proclaimed prophets like to put on a show and predict future events, the question is how many are really hearing firsthand how to teach and preach Christ, and let Him reveal the mystery of the gospel to them personally.

1 Corinthians 15:57-58 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (58) Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. (KJV)

You want prophecy, here you go. Did you know that every time you step out in faith, having heard the word of God through His Son Jesus Christ, you have victory? That is why we are encouraged to walk by this faith and no longer by our outward sight. However that victory lap begins today, right now, taking the time and making hearing that message a priority so that you can know and not have to guess that you have this victory, no matter what. Most of what people call prophesy, such as having someone lay hands on them and then muttering something that is supposedly going to take place some day, is nothing more than some cheap hoax by a bunch of hucksters selling their version of the word of God. Then they are not around when it comes time to explain why their so called prophesies failed to come to pass, just like the carnies haven taken the money and run.

James 3:16-18 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. (17) But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. (18) And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace. (KJV)

I hear this question many times, ‘how can I know the voice I am hearing is from God’? The wisdom that is from above is first pure, thus why it is so important to go to the source for yourself firsthand and hear His message of love before it gets polluted with all of man’s addictives. It’s easy to be received; it brings peace to the heart and points you toward the Lord, and not toward someone who is putting on some show pretending he is speaking on His behalf. It brings peace and harmony between you and God, so that you can know His plan of salvation personally and where you fit in the body of Christ. With many others they preach out of envy and strife causing more confusion, and their motives are evil, which we know from the Word is the love of money and not a love for God or His people. The pure word of God is Spirit and it brings life to the believer, while with mankind it is not spiritual and brings more strife than belief. When you hear that still small voice from God it is one that will build you up and not tear you down. That other voice is building themselves up and their organizations by putting themselves on a pedestal.

2 Corinthians 2:14 Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. (KJV)

Here is some more prophecy; find out who you are in Christ, letting Him reveal the mystery of the gospel to you personally so that you can triumph always and not just hit or miss like at a casino, or sad to say man’s so called versions of a church which resemble more of a casino than a church.

Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? (36) As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. (37) Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. (38) For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, (39) Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (KJV)

Quit looking to other people to find the answer when it is right there in front of you for the taking; that being the love of God which is manifest through Christ and shed abroad in your heart so that you know for yourself the victory, the triumph, and how to be more of a conqueror in Him. God gave us the best He has available, that being the Son that was sent on our behalf so that we could know our rights and authority in His name, Jesus Christ. You want a sure word of prophecy? Then why not go to the source and get it firsthand from Him who is seated at the right hand of God ready to deliver it personally to you.
