Nothing New Under The Sun
Genesis 3:1-6 Now the serpent was more
subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said
unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the
garden? (2) And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of
the trees of the garden: (3) But of the fruit of the tree which is in the
midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall
ye touch it, lest ye die. (4) And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall
not surely die: (5) For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then
your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
(6) And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was
pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took
of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her;
and he did eat. (KJV)
There is really nothing new under the
sun, that being the outward realm of man because man is limited and under a
law of sin and death. All things become new to them that are under the Son,
that being the spiritual one, because they choose the tree of life over the
tree of man’s knowledge and wisdom (that being the carnal mind which is
enmity with God). As we see in the beginning with mankind the same holds
true for each and every believer today, we have the same choice, we can
partake of the tree of life, that being Christ who is our life, or we can
lean back to our own understanding and partake of the forbidden fruit of
this world, the things we think are wise or will make us wiser. Pride comes
before the fall, and all those that lean to their own understanding, no
longer walking by faith but rather sight will fall as well, and just as
quick as the first man Adam and his wife did.
Romans 11:18-22 Boast not against the
branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.
(19) Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be
graffed in. (20) Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou
standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear: (21) For if God spared not
the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. (22) Behold
therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity;
but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou
also shalt be cut off. (KJV)
You know, you have been grafted into the
tree of life so that you could partake of it and grow up into the things of
our Lord. As we see in verse 20 a warning is given to mankind again about
being high minded, or wise in their own thinking. If you had any doubts
about this once saved always saved doctrine that ear tickling people like
to tickle ears with, then verses 21&22 should seal the deal concerning
that lie. Remember it is up to us to abide in Him and then He will abide in
us, because the reason people fall away again from God’s plan of salvation
is because of unbelief, thinking they know better than God.
Williams New Testament translation
of Romans 11:18:
18. you must not be boasting against the
natural branches. And if you do, just consider, you do not support the
root, but the root supports you. Basically what the author is saying here
is that Jesus Christ is the author and finisher of our faith; that would be
His message being sent to the believer, and not the other way around as so
many think. If you become rooted and grounded in truth then that is the
fruit you will be bearing; while the flip side is, that being rooted and grounded
in this fallen world will leave one dried out and withering away, being
blown to and fro with every ungodly doctrine of man.
1 Timothy 6:17-19 Charge them that are
rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain
riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; (18)
That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute,
willing to communicate; (19) Laying up in store for themselves a good
foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal
life. (KJV)
Remember who your source truly is and
what got you into the kingdom of God in the first place, that being your
ability to hear His message of love and now partaking of the root and
fatness of the tree of life. The root of all evil is the love of money; and
though you can’t buy your way into the kingdom of God many have sold out
because their love for this world drowns out the love they might have had
at one time for God. Again the forbidden fruit of this world looks and
sounds so good if you continue giving ear to the carnal salesman, the one
that would like to see you fall for the lie rather than continue in the
truth. How many infomercials have you watched where the more they pitch
their product the more one thinks they can’t live without it? Just like in
the beginning with Adam and Eve, they gave ear to a stranger’s voice, which
if followed leads to death. Those that are in Christ will quickly identify
that voice and know that it is not of God and cast down all those thoughts
and imaginations and any other high thing that tries to exalt itself
against the knowledge of God.
Isaiah 5:20-21 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that
put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and
sweet for bitter! (21) Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and
prudent in their own sight! (KJV)
Not much has really changed has it over
the years? What mankind thinks is so highly esteemed and important is an
abomination in the sight of God; while what God says is so important is an
abomination in man’s sight. Many of these man-made doctrines that man calls
good is nothing short of evil, and what man says is good is mostly
motivated by their evil desires, seeking to justify their lower fallen
natures rather than hearing how to overcome them. Many that are wise in
their own eyes are really dull of hearing, blind as well to the things of
the Spirit, no longer exercising their spiritual senses to know the
difference between what is of God and what is a cheap imitation. So where
are your roots leading you and what is the source of your life today; is it
rooted near the river of life, or are you rooted in the river of strife,
the things of this fallen uncertain realm?
1 Corinthians 3:18-20 Let no man deceive
himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him
become a fool, that he may be wise. (19) For the wisdom of this world is
foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own
craftiness. (20) And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that
they are vain. (KJV)
Having watched the Olympics last month,
how many athletes enter these contests with the mindset of losing, or
running in vain? When you came to the Lord seeking His counsel you expected
victory, after all that is what is promised to those in Christ. In essence
every time you think you know better than the Lord, like walking by sight
and not faith, you are on a destructive path, one that is empty and
useless, without the results God intended for His people.
Proverbs 3:13-18 Happy is the man that
findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. (14) For the
merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain
thereof than fine gold. (15) She is more precious than rubies: and all the
things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. (16) Length of
days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour. (17) Her
ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. (18) She is a
tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that
retaineth her. (KJV)
Where are your roots getting planted
today, and whose wisdom are you operating in, your limited fallen carnal
one, or an unlimited unending realm of peace and joy that can’t be bought?
You have access to the tree of life today, so rather than get talked out of
your reward and inheritance like in the beginning, take hold and grasp the
truth, which is what the word ‘retain’ means, so that you won’t be
separated from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. God bless
and let the living waters flow through you this day.
