Good For Nothing
Galatians 6:3-4 For if a man think
himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. (4) But
let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in
himself alone, and not in another. (KJV)
Many people deceive themselves because
when they look in the mirror they see someone they are not, at least not in
deed, but rather mostly in word. We have many vain talkers out there who
think they need to please and impress people with what they think are godly
works, but in the end it is all for naught, vain, empty and worthless which
is what the word ‘nothing’ refers to. In fact whether many will admit it or
not, the person they dread the most, or should I say dread to look at
honestly, is themselves; so rather than learning to be content with who and
how God made them they spend most their time and effort trying to cover up
their lower nature rather than overcoming it. We all sin and fall short of
the glory of God, and all have hidden things of darkness that even though
it is not visible to the outward it is something that God sees and
considers contrary. What the Lord is saying today is, that many are afraid
to honestly look at themselves in the mirror, or as the Bible describes it
as a glass, because they see someone they know is not right with God. They
then go out and forget what manner of man they really are and put up a
false front that in the end they are only deceiving themselves.
1 Corinthians 13:1-3 Though I speak with
the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as
sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. (2) And though I have the gift of
prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I
have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I
am nothing. (3) And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and
though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me
nothing. (KJV)
Ever hear the term ‘good for nothing’?
Well, that is what many are who begin their walk with God in the Spirit and
then think they can perfect it in the flesh. We have lots of people out and
about preaching fire and brimstone, working ministry work they claim is of
God, when in reality it is nothing, and neither are they according to our
Lord because rather than stay on the Potter’s wheel and let the Lord shape
them they way He intended, they decided to conform to what would please man
instead of finding out who they truly are in Christ. We as males have all
been brought up in a society of what many claim the image of a man really
is, and anything outside of that projected image is not acceptable. So for
a man to be humble, meek, and loving one another is totally contrary to the
outward strong, macho image that has been portrayed for so many years.
Actually those that portray these images, like when watching these football
players pound on their chests and act like animals, the truth be known many
of these people are cowards, covering up their own shortcomings and faults
rather than dealing with who they truly are in an honest open manner before
God.
Titus 1:15-16 Unto the pure all things
are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure;
but even their mind and conscience is defiled. (16) They profess that they
know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient,
and unto every good work reprobate. (KJV)
Remember what our Lord said, that only
those that were pure in heart would be able to see God? In other words, you
have to come clean before our Lord and realize that without Him you are in
reality, nothing. We still have many out and about who claim to be of God
and working on His behalf, who still judge their relationship according to
their outward works, and not the inward working of the Spirit the Lord
desires to do with all His people. Simply put, if the thoughts and motives
of the heart are not pure then the results will be all for naught, useless,
vain, and accomplishing nothing as far as our Lord is concerned.
John 15:5-6 I am the vine, ye are the
branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much
fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. (6) If a man abide not in me, he
is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast
them into the fire, and they are burned. (KJV)
So honestly, today, looking at your own
life, are you truly abiding in the Lord and bringing forth the fruit of His
Spirit; that being love, joy, and peace to name a few, or has your walk become
stale, stuck in what seems like a desert without much in the way of living
waters? The just shall live by faith; because without faith it is
impossible to please our Lord; and without Him we are nothing and can do
nothing. What should have been, I can do all things through Christ, has now
become good for nothing, ready to be burned unless one takes action and
gets out of the burning situation they put themselves into.
John 8:54-55 Jesus answered, If I honour
myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye
say, that he is your God: (55) Yet ye have not known him; but I know him:
and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I
know him, and keep his saying. (KJV)
You know, our Lord didn’t come here to
build Himself up or build up a big following, in fact the Word says He made
Himself of no reputation, but humbled Himself and became obedient, even
unto the death of the cross. So if that was the mindset of Jesus Christ,
why are so many doing just the opposite and trying to build up themselves
and a big following rather than being content with knowing they are of God
and keeping His saying? In fact, if more people were content with their
place in the body of Christ do you think we would have so much strife and
contention in it, like we see all around us?
2 Corinthians 12:9-11 And he said unto
me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in
weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that
the power of Christ may rest upon me. (10) Therefore I take pleasure in
infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses
for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. (11) I am become a
fool in glorying; ye have compelled me: for I ought to have been commended
of you: for in nothing am I behind the very chiefest apostles, though I be
nothing. (KJV)
You know, Paul was used of our Lord,
mightily I would say, because rather than try to build himself up he was
more concerned with building up others and showing them who they are in
Christ. In fact, talk about the opposite! Paul found that his strength was
in weakness, and took pleasure and dealt with his infirmities rather than
covering them up and trying to be something or someone he wasn’t or
intended to be.
Matthew 5:13 Ye are the salt of the
earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted?
it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden
under foot of men. (KJV)
How do you see yourself today; are you
someone that our Lord can use because you have been open and honest about
who you really are, without all the phony facades and fronts? When you look
in the mirror do you see a man of God, a vessel fit and ready for use by
our Father, or just some dime a dozen good for nothing vessel that would
rather please man than God?
