Communion
1 Corinthians 11:23-26 For I have
received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord
Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: (24) And when he
had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which
is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. (25) After the same manner
also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new
testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of
me. (26) For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew
the Lord's death till he come. (KJV)
You know, shortly after this situation
took place, which has been referred to as the last supper, Our Lord was
crucified and died on the cross. Now with anything we see and read about in
the scriptures it is up to us to rightly divide the word of truth so that
we can hear and understand the Spiritual meaning and interpretation of
these verses. Case in point, while we have many that still hold to the
outward meaning of communion and reenact what took place at the last
supper, where does one draw the line, in other words, why don’t these same
people then reenact the crucifixion as well?
Matthew 4:3-4 And when the tempter came
to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be
made bread. (4) But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live
by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. (KJV)
You know, the tempter is one that would
like to keep people trapped in the realm of the flesh, seeking the answer
in the physical realm instead of the Spiritual one. When one partakes of
the bread of life (that would now be a spiritual bread) they are then reminded
of the fact that someone has to die, and that would be our lower nature and
its desires. The more you allow the Lord and His influence to increase then
you will decrease, dying daily so that you can now live by every word that
proceeds forth from the mouth of God. Simple isn’t it? Yet how many still
think they have to reenact something in the flesh or some ritual they think
will please God when God said He is a spirit and those that desire to
worship Him must do so in Spirit and in truth.
Luke 5:37-39 And no man putteth new wine
into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled,
and the bottles shall perish. (38) But new wine must be put into new
bottles; and both are preserved. (39) No man also having drunk old wine
straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better. (KJV)
Luke 5:36-39
[And
he spake also a parable.] The Lord's parables were illustrations or
incidents taken from daily life by which he conveyed spiritual teaching.
They revealed truth to those who could discern it, and concealed mysteries
from those who were not ready for them. Patched garments were common in
Palestine, because the people were poor. New cloth, sewed on an old
garment, will shrink when washed, and so will pull apart the older and
weaker cloth. 37. Bottles were not glass containers, but skins of animals
used as sacks for liquid. The old wineskins had lost their elasticity, and
would not hold the new wine, which might still be in partial process of
fermentation. Likewise the new teaching of the kingdom of God could not be
contained within the forms of the Law, but must be expressed in new ways. A
fresh revelation had come in Christ, which demanded a different form of
worship. (from Wycliffe Commentary)
Are you seeing a pattern yet, something
that took place in the outward realm that now has a Spiritual meaning and
connotation? Again I ask this question, who decided that we need to have a
communion service and reenact what took place at the last supper, but
decided to skip the crucifixion stuff? Sound silly and a bit far-fetched? Well,
not any sillier and more far-fetched then thinking a wafer of bread or a
sip of wine would do anything to further your walk with the Lord.
2 Corinthians 13:14 The grace of the Lord
Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be
with you all. Amen. (KJV)
Strong’s definition for ‘communion’:
2842
koinonia (koy-nohn-ee'-ah); from 2844; partnership, i.e. (literally)
participation, or (social) intercourse, or (pecuniary) benefaction: KJV-- (to) communicate (-ation), communion,
(contri-) distribution, fellowship.
How do you communicate and fellowship
with the Lord; your participation with Him, is it based on outward rituals,
or is it by a new and living way He has provided for us through the Spirit?
Philippians 3:3 For we are the
circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus,
and have no confidence in the flesh. (KJV)
Hey guys, yeah, as soon as you are done
with the bread and wine routine, and if I were you I might take an extra
shot of the wine, then it is time to step up for the circumcision, I mean
after all, why stop now? Oh, but that is silly and that is where we draw
the line. Well, a line has been drawn some two thousand years ago, and it
divides the flesh from the Spirit, it separates the men from the boys so to
speak. Those that truly desire to worship our Lord, and worship not just
referring to putting your hands in the air and staring at the ceiling, but
a true worship is a lifestyle which must be done in Spirit and especially
in truth.
1 John 1:3-4 That which we have seen and
heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and
truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. (4)
And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full. (KJV)
Fellowship and communion are basically
one in the same, so the question for today is, how do you communicate with
our Lord, is it in His realm which is spiritual, or are you still trying to
access Him with some old outdated carnal ritual, a realm that He does not
operate in?
