Asking For It

As with any relationship you will find that communication is vital to maintaining a long lasting healthy union. Knowing, not just guessing how to communicate with our Father is very important as well, your prayer life being an open line of communication between you and the Father through His Son Jesus Christ on a daily basis.

Matthew 7:7-8 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: (8) For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. (KJV)

Knowing what to ask for and where to look for the answer is what will allow you to have an open door policy between you and the Father.

Matthew 6:7-8 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. (8) Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. (KJV)

When you petition the Lord keep in mind that the Lord heard you the first time, He doesn’t forget. Communication is a two way street; now that you have made the petition be still and listen to His response. If you don’t like the answer you get, maybe you need to rethink your request.

James 4:2-3 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. (3) Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. (KJV)

Are you truly asking for something that is beneficial to your Christian walk, or are you seeking something else to satisfy the desires of the flesh which will hinder your walk.

Psalms 37:4-5 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. (5) Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. (KJV)

Now many have claimed all they need to do is name it, claim it and it will come to pass. The word of God says clearly that He will give you the desires of the heart. But the question is, now that you have come to a working knowledge of Jesus Christ and His plan of salvation, and the fact that He has taken out the old stony heart and given us a new heart to work with, would not your desire now be the things of God and not the things of this realm only?

1 John 5:14-15 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: (15) And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. (KJV)

A confident prayer life is a reflection of your walk with Christ, without one you will not have the other. The will of God is to deliver us from this present evil world, so why would you ask for things that would just keep you in bondage to the things of this life?

Genesis 3:6-7 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. (7) And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. (KJV)

Beware of cheap imitations. Things that look good to the flesh and appeal to our lower nature are nothing less than the trap of the devil to keep you snared and entangled in the realm of the lower nature. All that glitters is not always gold; the devil is willing to show you the highlights but not the consequences, which can be lethal to the spirit man. Are you seeking to be clothed with a robe of righteousness, or have you been stripped bare and exposed to the elements?
