A Little While
James 4:13-15 Go to now, ye that say, To
day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and
buy and sell, and get gain: (14) Whereas ye know not what shall be on the
morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a
little time, and then vanisheth away. (15) For that ye ought to say, If the
Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. (KJV)
Just a brief reminder today, just so you
keep in mind just how long we really are here in this realm on planet
earth. Our life here is described as a little time, a vapor compared with
eternity. So with that in mind, what exactly is on your mind today; the
things of this life or the eternal one? Have you forgotten that we are only
here for a brief moment in time compared to eternity, and with all that is
available in the eternal realm of the Spirit have you taken the time to
secure your place, being in good standing with the Lord today?
James 4:15-17 For that ye ought to say,
If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. (16) But now ye
rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. (17) Therefore to
him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. (KJV)
Some people already have their lives
planned out, most of which involves earthly treasure more than the heavenly
treasure we have access to. We know what the root of all evil is, that
being the love of money; but for many they have sold out and would rather
have their reward here on earth than hold out a little longer and receive
their eternal one in heaven. Man’s abundance does not consist of the things
he possesses, at least not earthly things, but rather how much he treasured
the things from above, something our Lord was dying to give His people.
Just think, if your life ended today, would it not seem like just a moment,
and then it goes from here to eternity. So what are you bringing to the next
realm? Because you have to ask yourself honestly, is all this stuff I am
pursuing and getting so wrapped up in really worth selling out to, compared
to what is available for all eternity with the Lord?
Hebrews 10:36-39 For ye have need of
patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the
promise. (37) For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and
will not tarry. (38) Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw
back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. (39) But we are not of them
who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the
soul. (KJV)
You know the Lord is not asking you to
abide here in this realm for a long time, but just the opposite, a little
while. How about narrowing that down even shorter, how about being faithful
and holding on for today? Once you accepted the Lord’s plan of salvation
and committed your life to Him it is expected that we live by faith,
hearing the message being delivered by God through Christ and then act
accordingly to what He is asking. You need to be patient, letting this
patience have its perfect work so that you can be perfect (mature in
Christ) lacking nothing. So what is it that you are fussing and fighting
over; is it really worth getting all wrapped up over, to the point that it
affects your walk with the Lord and your eternal outcome?
Psalms 37:7-11 Rest in the LORD, and wait
patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his
way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. (8) Cease from
anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil. (9) For
evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall
inherit the earth. (10) For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be:
yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be. (11)
But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the
abundance of peace. (KJV)
All those bad people out there getting
away with all this stuff, when is it going to end? Well how about today,
right now, instead of getting caught up in the bad news of the world why
don’t you spend more time in the good news of the gospel, and know that in
a little while it will all be over. It is comforting to know that we only have
to be here for a little while, and then the Lord is going to return and set
things straight again. So for today, right now, we need to enter into the
Lord’s rest and cease from our own works, waiting patiently for Him.
Sometimes Christians act like this is the eternal realm, and rather than
seek the things of God they get mixed up not knowing the difference between
Spiritual and emotional. Many end up seeking emotional highs rather than
getting built up on the foundation of God, Jesus Christ being that cornerstone
of their faith. So what do you think, can you hang on a bit longer, how
about just taking thought for the things of today?
Haggai 2:5-7 According to the word that I
covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt, so my spirit remaineth among
you: fear ye not. (6) For thus saith the LORD of hosts; Yet once, it is a
little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and
the dry land; (7) And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all
nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD
of hosts. (KJV)
Take a look around, everything you see is
about to change, heaven and earth will pass away; the question is will you
pass away with it or will you endure to the end? Really, the Lord is not
asking too much of us, is He, the fact that we only have to abide here for
a short time in this fallen realm so that we can receive our reward of
inheritance in His eternal one?
Williams New Testament translation
of 2Timothy 2:3-5:
3. Take your share of hardships like a
good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4. No soldier ever allows himself to be
involved in the business affairs of life, so that he may please the officer
who enlisted him. 5. No contestant in the games is crowned, unless he
competes according to the rules.
When a person enlists in the Army they
now have to follow a whole new set of rules and regulations in order to
fulfill their duty. One of the main duties we need to keep in mind as
Christians is, not to get so caught up and entangled with the affairs of
this fallen life so that we can receive our discharge papers honorably when
we stand before the Lord.
Revelation 12:10-12 And I heard a loud
voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom
of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is
cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. (11) And they
overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony;
and they loved not their lives unto the death. (12) Therefore rejoice, ye
heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and
of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath,
because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. (KJV)
Those that make it to their eternal
destination are the ones that were willing to lay down their lives for the
brethren, and walk by faith not entangling themselves with the silly
pointless things of this life. Even the devil when cast out of heaven knew
that he only had a short time. So today, are you seeking the short term
pleasures of this life, or will you hold to the truth and wait on your
eternal reward? We only have a little time on this earth, use it wisely.
