A Conscious Awareness

Titus 1:15-16 Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. (16) They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate. (KJV)

Thayer’s definition for ‘conscience’:

4893  suneidesis- (from a prolonged form of NT:4894)

1) the consciousness of anything

2) the soul as distinguishing between what is morally good and bad, prompting to do the former and shun the latter, commending one, condemning the other; the conscience

Thayer’s definition for ‘privy’:

4894  suneido-

1) to see (have seen) together with others

2) to see (have seen) in one's mind with oneself; to understand, to perceive, to comprehend,

3) to know with another

4) to know in one's mind or with oneself, to be the conscience of

We all are aware of the word ‘conscience’, something we have heard about growing up in the carnal realm and something we needed to give heed to if we desired to stay out of trouble. As we see in the above verses, to know something we know already to be fact; something we have been made of aware of now makes us conscious to the truth so there is no excuse if you stray from that. Like as a teenager, I was told what the rules were concerning use of the family car, and I knew darn well when I went beyond those rules, because I had a conscience to remind me that there would be consequences. Those that are born again into the new realm of the Spirit now also become conscious and aware of a new set of spiritual regulations; which is called the law of faith, so that if one strays from what they know is truth then they are reminded of that fact as well. Many profess they know God but in works, which is usually limited to religious dead works, deny God and no longer operate in His realm. Instead of continuing in the faith and becoming rooted and grounded in the things of God, they fall away and become less and less aware of the spiritual realm and stay boxed in by the carnal realm ignoring the Spirit’s leading and guiding.

John 8:3-6 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, (4) They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. (5) Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? (6) This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. (KJV)

Doesn’t this accurately illustrate a lot of the religious organizations today; a bunch of self righteous people accusing others; spending more time looking at the speck in someone else’s life while ignoring the beam in their own eyes that is blocking their vision?

John 8:7-9 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. (8) And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. (9) And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. (KJV)

You know, all the while this was taking place their conscience had to be convicting them, thus the reason why they became so hostile. As we see the Lord didn’t argue or engage in some debate with them, but rather pointed them to the spiritual realm and spoke out exactly what they knew was truth, even though they did all they could to ignore it. Is your conscience speaking with you today, reminding you of something you know you should be doing and are not? Once you have become aware of the things of the Spirit, it is required that you stay in that realm and do those things that are pleasing to our Lord. So if you are having unrest, if there is turmoil in your life today, instead of blaming someone else for your misery maybe it would do you good to give the more earnest heed to things which you have heard and know to be fact.

Romans 5:1-2 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: (2) By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. (KJV)

Do you desire to be in good standing with the Lord? Then you need to give ear to His Word and become more aware of the things of the spiritual realm and less of this fallen one. You won’t find peace running a smear campaign on someone else, because most of the time, the reason you are so worked up and frustrated is because you see your own faults and shortcomings in others; and instead of getting it out of your own life you are going to beat it out of someone else. You have access into the realm of God by His grace, not your works, so the more you realize it is His grace the more you will experience His peace. To have the peace of God means you are in good standing with Him, having made hearing His Word a priority and walking in the truth that you know already, instead of trying to cut corners and do things half hearted and then wonder why your conscience is convicting you.

1 Corinthians 4:3-5 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self. (4) For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord. (5) Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God. (KJV)

You know, if you just let the Lord have His way and not be so concerned with what anyone else thinks or says you would sure have a lot more peace in your life. You can look good to mankind, and live an upstanding life according to the outward appearance, but our Lord operates in a hidden realm, one where He expects us to operate as well. Even though you may think you look good on the outward, there is a realm of things hidden to many, you know like the term ‘skeletons in the closet’? These are things the Lord expects us to remove in order to be in good standing with Him. So where do you stand today; is there peace in your life or is there a tugging on the heart, a conscience reminding you that something is not right and needs to be repaired and dealt with properly before there will be peace? Don’t ignore your conscience, because you won’t have peace until you listen and do all that the Lord is asking and expecting you to do.
