A Calendar Event
Psalms 118:24 This is the day which the
LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. (KJV)
When you look at the calendar to see what
day it is today, what do you really see? For many, they will tell you it is
a special day, one they think God takes special notice of. For those that
are looking through the eyes of the Spirit having their understanding
enlightened to that realm, they see another opportunity to worship our Lord
in Spirit and in truth. Each and every day that you abide on this planet,
in this realm, was made by our Lord for His good pleasure, and so were you.
The question now becomes, will you take the time to hear His Word and do
those things that are pleasing in His sight, or are you more influenced by
what the majority is doing and holding to? If today or any other day that
you abide on this earth is anything other than for pleasing our Lord, then
it is vain, empty, worthless, and a waste of time. Also, if today has any
more special meaning than any other day, it may do you well to double check
your Spiritual calendar and see what our Lord has to say concerning this
issue.
Romans 14:1-6 Him that is weak in the
faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. (2) For one believeth
that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs. (3) Let not
him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth
not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him. (4) Who art thou that
judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth.
Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand. (5) One man
esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let
every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. (6) He that regardeth the
day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the
Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he
giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and
giveth God thanks. (KJV)
First of all, let’s take note of the fact
that, those that think certain foods or certain days are more special to
God are weak in the faith, or in their hearing and interpreting of the
Word. It is important to note also, that no matter who we deal with it is
not to get into disputes, or into the flesh, because those that are in that
realm cannot please God. Rather our purpose as believers in Christ is to
have the answer; to be ready to present the facts to anyone that would ask,
and then let them decide for themselves what to believe. The fact remains
though, that those that hold certain days above others are weakened by
these beliefs, and the only thing that will set them free is the truth. So
when the world and all its worldly people claim that a day in December is
so special it tells me that they are dull of hearing, mostly because they
allow the influence of man to supersede that of God.
Colossians 2:16-17 Let no man therefore
judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon,
or of the sabbath days: (17) Which are a shadow of things to come; but the
body is of Christ. (KJV)
Williams New Testament translation
of Colossians 2:16-17
16. Stop letting anyone pass judgment on
you in matters of eating and drinking, or in the matter of annual or
monthly feasts or sabbaths. 17. These were but the shadow of what was
coming; the reality belongs to Christ.
You know, this an area where many
Christians cave in because of peer pressure, thinking they will look like
weirdo’s or a cult if they don’t celebrate certain popular holidays. But
you know, if you are caving in on these obvious ones how many other things
will you cave in on and compromise on as well? If you are not able to be
faithful in small matters, what makes you think you will be faithful in the
bigger ones? All of these things that took place in the Old Testament were
but a shadow of what is available in Christ, a realm that goes above and
beyond whatever this world and its cheap imitations would have to offer.
As a child I was gullible and influenced
by outward happenings, and for the first years of my life what many told me
was happening on December 25th had an impact on my life.
However, as I grew and somewhat matured in the realm of the flesh I was
able to see through the façade of a man called Santa, which once that
happened it made me question how many other lies I was falling for. By the
way, Santa, Satan, there is no difference there. Which as I grew in the
Lord I was able to see this whole thing was a charade, something not based
on truth. Where does the Bible tell us that we should be celebrating the
birth of a man named Jesus in a town of Bethlehem, and where does it say it
took place on December 25th? Questions I pondered, questions I
had answered by taking the time to hear the Lord’s take on it and not what
everyone else said. Simply put, how can you take something that is based on
a lie and claim that it is of God? It’s like trying to drive a square peg
into a round hole.
Galatians 4:8-11 Howbeit then, when ye knew
not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods. (9) But now,
after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again
to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in
bondage? (10) Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years. (11) I am
afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain. (KJV)
It’s one thing to have been duped in our
past before our conversion in Christ, it’s another thing to get duped again
and turn back to the weak and beggarly things of this life to find peace
with God after our conversion. Once again we see that those that observe
and hold certain days in higher esteem than others, well, that would make
them weak in the faith as well would it not? In fact, I can picture Paul
sitting with his head in his hands thinking ‘was all this time I spent
teaching the people in vain, all for naught?’ When I look around today and
see so many that claim this time of year is special, and who quote “we
should keep Christ in Christmas”, I ask the question, how can we keep
Christ in something He never had anything to do with in the first place? A
question many others should be asking as well instead of fussing and
fighting with the world and getting into disputes that lead to more doubt
than faith.
Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait
gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to
destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: (14) Because strait is
the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be
that find it. (KJV)
If you are truly going to enter into the
Lord’s realm, and stay in good standing with Him, then following the crowd
or the many is not going to work anymore. One of the biggest things you
should realize or take notice of again is that when you see the many or
majority doing something, then realize it can’t be of God. Like the Word
says, there are a few who are willing to break free so that they can
worship our Lord in Spirit and in truth, and not become weakened or influenced
by the traditions and doctrines of man. Today is a calendar event day, the
question is what are you seeing and which calendar are you looking at, the
carnal or Spiritual? This and every day that we have here on this earth is
the day the Lord has made, let us be glad and rejoice in it so that someday
when we seek entrance into the eternal realm our Lord will rejoice with
open arms as well.
For more information on the origins of
this holiday Google the word ‘saturnalia Christmas’ so that you can rightly
divide the word of truth before you decide which calendar event day you
will hold to.
