A Burning Desire

Galatians 3:23-27 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. (24) Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. (25) But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. (26) For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. (27) For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. (KJV)

Do you have a burning desire in your heart to stay close to the Lord and do those things that are pleasing in His sight? Before faith came, before we were adopted into the family of God, we were outside His realm, outside the realm of faith where it is impossible to please Him. Now that faith is here, our ability to hear the message being delivered by Christ and follow through with what He is asking, why would anyone ever desire to go back to a realm where God doesn’t operate any longer, that being by the works of the law? Your adoption, your introduction, your true baptism into the family of Christ is spiritual, one that is based on faith and not of works so that no one can boast or take credit for something our Lord did to get us adopted into His realm.

Luke 12:49-50 I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled? (50) But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished! (KJV)

Is there a spiritual fire burning in your heart today; you know, one that lit the candle and gives light, letting our light shine before all to see? Baptism represents so much more than just getting dunked in water and thinking that seals the deal. Being baptized into Christ is a baptism of fire, one where He shows us how to light the candle, and then keep it burning. Nothing will douse it quicker than going back to the works of the old law and holding to the literal meaning of the scriptures rather than seeing the true spiritual meaning of them. So, if you are still holding to the old then most likely that fire is quenched, no longer burning or providing the enlightenment to see the truth in Christ. You are a child of God, one of His son’s or daughter’s by faith, and without faith it is impossible to please God and continue in the place He would have you, but rather your light is flickering in the wind and ready to be blown out.

Luke 24:31-32 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. (32) And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures? (KJV)

The disciples had an eye opening experience and it caused a burning in their heart, having heard the truth and seeing the Word opened to them. Have you experienced this for yourself and are you able to keep this fire burning, or are you burnt out still trying to find the answer somewhere else? Once you have experienced the truth, the true baptism and adoption into the family of God in Christ, you will find it is the one and only thing that will ever satisfy and bring peace. Keep in mind too, that in order to access this truth you need to go to the source for yourself and hear it first hand, not taking someone else’s word for it.

Luke 24:26-27 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? (27) And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. (KJV)

In case you were wondering, this is what caused the burning in their heart, the same Christ that spoke to the disciples desires to speak with you as well and open the eyes of your understanding to the truth of the gospel. So if you wish to keep this fire burning then go to the Source and you will find the answer.

Proverbs 20:27 The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly. (KJV)

Keep in mind that the things that are being spoken of today are spiritual in nature, whether referring to fire, baptism, or candles; it’s up to us to hear the spiritual meaning of the Word which can only come through Christ so that we don’t end up in darkness. While mankind looks and judges things according to the outward, those that are truly the sons of God by faith are able to see and operate beyond the veil of the flesh and into the realm the Lord intended for His people. Have you heard from the Lord today for yourself, first hand, so that the fire that was started in you will continue to burn and bring light to those around you, or are you stumbling around in the dark with the rest of the blind leading the blind?

Luke 8:16-17 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light. (17) For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad. (KJV)

You know, the Lord lit a spiritual candle and set it in the heavenly realm so those that access it could see His plan of salvation clearly. This spiritual candle was lit so that it could be seen by His people and is no longer hid, but readily revealed to those that are in the Spirit. The only way we can enter in is through Christ; then it is important that we stay seated in His realm so that we can see and hear what He has for us personally and abide in our place in the body. However, you are not going to know this or see it for yourself unless you personally enter in and let this light shine in your heart as well.

Hebrews 12:28-29 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: (29) For our God is a consuming fire. (KJV)

Adam Clarke Commentary on Hebrews 12:29

[For our God is a consuming fire.] The apostle quotes <Deut. 4:24>, and by doing so he teaches us this great truth, that sin under the Gospel is as abominable in God's sight as it was under the law; and that the man who does not labour to serve God with the principle and in the way already prescribed, will find that fire to consume him which would otherwise have consumed his sin.

Fire is a good thing; it can be used for cooking, heating, as well as cleansing. However the flip side can be deadly. That same fire that the Lord was using to burn the chaff, those things in our lives that are unprofitable and vain (like with weeds, so that a new growth could take place), can also destroy if not used properly. So today, is there a burning desire in your heart to serve the living God letting His light illuminate the path, or are you burning up inside, frustrated, still trying to serve our Lord according to your thoughts and ways which are unprofitable and vain?
