Slippery Slope
Proverbs 3:26 For the LORD shall be thy
confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken. (KJV)
You’re walking along on a path and
suddenly your foot goes out from below you, and boom, down you go. You then
look back to see what you didn’t see the first time that would have
prevented the fall. Spiritually, as one grows and matures in the Lord it’s
not a matter of how many scriptures you can quote, but rather our walk is
one of letting go, removing self from the equation so that our confidence
and trust would be in someone greater who is now within us, and not something
or someone on the outside.
Hebrews 2:1-3 Therefore we ought to give
the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time
we should let them slip. (2) For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast,
and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of
reward; (3) How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at
the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them
that heard him; (KJV)
You know that verse concerning pride? Well
it’s true; it shows up just before the fall, as sure as summer proceeds the
fall. Spiritually, pride will take one down quickly if one is not giving
ear to the Word of God. When people put more trust in what they can see,
hear, or any outward sense rather than learning to exercise their Spiritual
senses they are walking downhill on a slippery slope of destruction, that
path that our Lord came to deliver us from. Your walk with the Lord began
with hearing, hearing the true word of God; and it is only in hearing His
word is what is going to allow you to continue in the faith and no longer
falling for the cheap hoaxes and disguises of the enemy who many times comes
in the form of one of the Lord’s ministers.
Romans 8:14-16 For as many as are led by
the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. (15) For ye have not received
the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of
adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. (16) The Spirit itself beareth
witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: (KJV)
Fear is a four letter word that basically
describes what happens when one puts their trust and confidence in outward
things, and not the inward leading of the Holy Spirit. You need to take the
time and make it a priority to stop all that you are doing on a daily
basis, and let the Spirit bear witness with your spirit, so that you can
hear personally what the Lord has for your walk today. A perfect love, a
trust and confidence in that voice is what will cast out all fear and keep
your feet on solid footing. But unless you are hearing that Spirit
personally for yourself, well, you will still be in bondage to that spirit
of fear that dogs and distracts many of God’s people from the path of
deliverance that our Lord had intended for them to walk on.
John 16:13-15 Howbeit when he, the Spirit
of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak
of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will
shew you things to come. (14) He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of
mine, and shall shew it unto you. (15) All things that the Father hath are
mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto
you. (KJV)
You know, in God’s realm there is no
fear, no doubts, or confusion; that is just not a part of His vocabulary.
All that junk enters in when one is no longer in tune with the Spirit, but instead
they are giving ear to something else that appeals more to the lower nature
rather than the new one that we have access to. Does it seem like the old
song, “slip sliding away”? Well, it comes down to your hearing; have you
heard from the Lord lately, personally, so that you can find the way of
escape that He has for you today out of this present evil fallen world of
deceptions and lies?
