Famished

Matthew 24:5-7 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. (6) And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. (7) For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. (KJV)

The Bible tells us what is going to take place as we near the end; and looking above at the verses reminds me of watching the evening news, which is only getting worse and worse. One of the signs of the end times is described as a famine, which has a much deeper meaning than just the outward. After all, when looking around, especially in this country, we see obesity has all but become an epidemic, so obviously there is plenty of food and then some.

Amos 8:11-13 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: (12) And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it. (13) In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst. (KJV)

The Bible tells us that mankind should not try to live by bread alone, but it takes the bread of life, the word of God which is Spirit and will bring life to those that make hearing and doing His word a priority, a way of life. Just like people that exercise and keep their temples in shape, it takes a discipline and a change of lifestyle in order to get healthy again. Folks, there is definitely a famine in the land, and this one is not as obvious as others because this famine is taking place in the realm of the Spirit. There is no shortage of the word of God; it’s the hearing part that many are falling short in.

Ephesians 4:4-6 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; (5) One Lord, one faith, one baptism, (6) One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. (KJV)

While driving through some small towns, even here in Montana, one will notice that main street will be filled with advertisements for local bars and restaurants. Another thing that has stood out to me is the numerous religious buildings, which are labeled by different faiths or denominations. Yet our Lord is so specific in the fact that He only operates by one faith, by one Spirit; but oh how something so obvious is overlooked by many who are being fed with watered down half truths and lies, just enough to keep them separated from the love of God in Christ.

Philippians 3:18-19 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: (19) Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) (KJV)

Now I wonder how many would walk into a restaurant that advertised steak on their menu that would not complain and fuss if they were given spam, or say a corndog for a meal. Yet Spiritually, how many are more concerned with feeding their bellies, and ignoring the heart of the matter? How many would send the meal back and refuse to pay for something that would not feed or nourish them? Spiritually there is a famine in the land, but this famine involves hearing the true meaning of the word of God the way He intended for us to live by. As I look around today, I truly see we are in the last days, as many are famished Spiritually, spending more time and effort feeding the old outward man rather than concentrating on the new inward creation in Christ.
