An Election Of Grace
Romans 11:5-6 Even so then at this
present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. (6)
And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more
grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is
no more work. (KJV)
Williams New Testament translation
Romans 11:5-6
5. So it is at the present time; a
remnant remains, in accordance with God's unmerited favor. 6. But if it is
by His unmerited favor, it is not at all conditioned on what they have
done. If that were so, His favor would not be favor at all.
You know, when you think of an election
what comes to mind is a candidate that makes a bunch of promises based on
his works. For those of us that have been duped in the past, we know that
most of the politics that go on is not for the benefit of the people, but
rather benefits the candidates more. Aren’t you tired and fed up with empty
promises, gimmicks and such that promise so much but in the end deliver so
little? Like with many of man’s doctrines, they are based more on works,
and not on faith which then allows us to walk in the grace of God which is
how we got saved in the first place, by His works and not ours. However,
the true remnant of God seems to be getting smaller and smaller each day;
you know, like trying to find an honest politician?
2 Peter 2:18-21 For when they speak great
swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh,
through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live
in error. (19) While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the
servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he
brought in bondage. (20) For if after they have escaped the pollutions of
the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they
are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with
them than the beginning. (21) For it had been better for them not to have
known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn
from the holy commandment delivered unto them. (KJV)
A lot of people start off with good
intentions; you know, like the many that are called of God but yet
eventually only a few are chosen? Many begin in the Spirit, realizing that
their salvation is based on grace through faith, and definitely not by
their works. However, somewhere along the line they tried to mix and match
the ways of this world with the mind of Christ, which doesn’t mesh,
thinking they knew better. Many of man’s religions are based on bigger is
better, and instead of building up the people and pointing them to the love
of God which is in Christ, it actually has become a contest of sorts, like
Paul wrote of those that preach are doing so based on envy and strife.
Galatians 5:4-5 Christ is become of no
effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen
from grace. (5) For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of
righteousness by faith. (KJV)
Another one bites the dust, a song that
aptly describes the sound of many who end up falling for the lies and
deceptions of the enemy who tries to get people to do things according to
their works, and not the completed work that our Lord and Savior has
already done on our behalf.
Romans 4:2-5 For if Abraham were
justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. (3) For
what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him
for righteousness. (4) Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned
of grace, but of debt. (5) But to him that worketh not, but believeth on
him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. (KJV)
A lot of people today are glorying in
their own works and not the work that our Lord has done so graciously on
our behalf. You can’t work your way into heaven; however, you can work your
way out, which is why the wages of sin is death. Your election, your good
standing with God will be determined by His grace through faith, and
definitely not of anything that you have done or think can be done to
further your walk with Him. Your election is by grace; I pray that you are
a worthy candidate today.
