A Grace Given
James 4:5-6 Do ye think that the
scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
(6) But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud,
but giveth grace unto the humble. (KJV)
The Spirit and the flesh (our carnal mind
and way of thinking) are totally contrary, and if allowed, the fleshly way
of thinking will lead to envy.
Strong’s definition for ‘envy’:
5355 phthonos (fthon'-os); probably akin
to the base of 5351; ill-will (as detraction), i.e. jealousy (spite): KJV--
envy.
For real? What began in the Spirit is now
going to be perfected by the flesh? Not happening, and not what our Lord intended
concerning your walk with Him. The gift of Christ is what allows us to be
more than a conqueror through Him that loved us. However, we should not be
looking at conquering one another, wrestling with flesh and blood, but
rather operating in this gift of grace which was provided for our benefit,
not so that we would end up throwing a fit. Pride comes before the fall; so
if you are walking a path that is not peaceable and is not something our
Lord chose for you, well you won’t have much to look forward to.
Proverbs 3:33-35 The curse of the LORD is
in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just.
(34) Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly.
(35) The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of
fools. (KJV)
You know, when you think of a promotion,
for myself I think of moving forward, don’t you? Yet looking at the above
verses, those that are operating outside of God’s grace and mercy, well,
let’s just say that they are advancing back to the rear so to speak. Hey
folks, God had a lot better plan for your life than shame; thus the reason
why He sent us His Son so that you could have life, a life in the Spirit
that involved love, joy, peace, and a confidence and boldness to go before
the throne of grace as well.
Ephesians 4:7 But unto every one of us is
given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. (KJV)
Grace, unmerited favor, merciful
kindness, these things that God afforded to mankind, and not the other way
around which seems to be the mindset of many in this world. The grace of
God is a free gift given for all to benefit from, all those that are
willing to serve our Lord in Spirit and in truth. Has your walk been
faltering a bit lately, seems like you are not sure where you are headed?
Maybe it’s time to take a look again in your mirror and make sure that a
man of God is looking back your way, and not someone who has gotten a bit
proud and thinks salvation is something you did by your own merits.
1 Corinthians 15:9-10 For I am the least
of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I
persecuted the church of God. (10) But by the grace of God I am what I am:
and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured
more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was
with me. (KJV)
You know, it was Paul the apostle that
made this statement, who at one time was Saul the apostate. Who better to
know the difference of what it is like to partake of the gift of grace, as
opposed to the works of the law? Paul realized that the closer he drew to
God, the more the Lord revealed to Him, confirming His word and work
through him. Are you aware of this gift of grace that was given to you
today?
