Slick and Cunning
Genesis 3:1-3 Now the serpent was more
subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said
unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the
garden? (2) And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of
the trees of the garden: (3) But of the fruit of the tree which is in the
midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall
ye touch it, lest ye die. (KJV)
Strong’s definition for ‘subtil’:
6175
`aruwm (aw-room'); passive participle of 6191; cunning (usually in a
bad sense): KJV-- crafty, prudent, subtil.
If you notice the enemy didn’t present
himself in some scary manner, but rather comes under the guise as being our
buddy, you know the one with the offer that is too good to be true? Now the
Bible doesn’t tell us how many times the enemy took a run at mankind before
he actually got them to fall for the lie, but we see that by giving ear to
a false doctrine and allowing the imagination to run wild, one will
eventually exchange the truth for the deception. The serpent symbolizes
something that can approach without someone even knowing it, and then can
deliver a lethal dose of poison if one is not watching. That slick pastor,
or so called prophet, or that high powered evangelist that is coming to
town, yeah I would be on the lookout because many of these people would
fall under the category of the many false prophets our Lord warned us
about.
Romans 1:21-25 Because that, when they knew
God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain
in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. (22) Professing
themselves to be wise, they became fools, (23) And changed the glory of the
uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds,
and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. (24) Wherefore God also gave
them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour
their own bodies between themselves: (25) Who changed the truth of God into
a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is
blessed for ever. Amen. (KJV)
The word ‘changed’ in verse 23 as well as
verse 25 means to exchange. So we see history repeating itself all over
again; people that knew the truth had now been giving ear to a lie from the
father of lies and end up settling for a cheap knock off version of the
truth (that would set them free and keep them free indeed). Folks, if you
don’t stay in the Word daily, keeping the mind renewed, rightly dividing
the truth, knowing the difference between soul (flesh) and spirit, you too
could fall for the deception as well. The enemy cannot literally pull you
out of the kingdom of God, but rather will seek subtle sneaky ways to prey
on any weakness that you have in your walk. By the way Church, many times
we give the enemy an open shot because with our mouth we speak negative
words that tell the enemy the pinpoint area that he can fire his darts at
us in the form of lies and deceptions.
1 Corinthians 10:4-6 And did all drink
the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that
followed them: and that Rock was Christ. (5) But with many of them God was
not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. (6) Now these
things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil
things, as they also lusted. (KJV)
Many of God’s people start out with good
intentions and partake of His living waters for a season; but as we see
many end up overthrown again (because of their lack of diligence in the Word
of God) by that slick and cunning salesman who would try to get them to
look back to the realm of the flesh to find peace and contentment. Please
for God’s sake, don’t buy into these slick and cunning spirits.
