Honesty Is Still The Best Policy
John 8:31-35 Then said Jesus to those
Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my
disciples indeed; (32) And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall
make you free. (33) They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never
in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? (34) Jesus
answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is
the servant of sin. (35) And the servant abideth not in the house for ever:
but the Son abideth ever. (KJV)
What we are going to look at this week is
the liberty that we have in Christ, and the things which can snare us and
bring us back into bondage again if one is not alert Spiritually. Not only
will the truth set you free and teach you who God is and how to operate in
His realm, but that same truth will teach and show you things about
yourself also; some things that you have tried to keep hidden and that you ignore
hoping they will go away. It is vital that we continue in the truth which
is only found in the gospel of Christ, something that reveals the inward
working, and no longer looking and judging things according to the outward.
Matthew 23:25-28 Woe unto you, scribes
and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of
the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. (26) Thou
blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter,
that the outside of them may be clean also. (27) Woe unto you, scribes and
Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed
appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of
all uncleanness. (28) Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men,
but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity. (KJV)
These verses above give an accurate
overview of many religious organizations, people that are more concerned
with outward appearances than an inward cleansing. This is exactly the
realm the devil would like to see many of the believers stay trapped in,
because they never look beyond the outward to find out who they are in
Christ and the truth that would set them free. Just like many young guys
today; you know, all these tough guys with their tattoos and macho images
of what they think a man should be rather than humbling themselves and
realizing how weak and pathetic they really are on their own.
1 Corinthians 11:28-30 But let a man
examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. (29)
For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation
to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. (30) For this cause many are
weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. (KJV)
So who do you see when you look in the
mirror? Is it a man or woman of God, one you know can stand before the
throne of God boldly knowing who you are in Christ, or are there hidden
things of darkness still lurking within you, things you keep ignoring and
covering up rather than dealing openly and honestly with these secret
faults? Keep this in mind also, the more you cover these things up and try to
hide them from the Lord and His people, the more you keep the Lord from
working in and through you so that you can be a true example of the
believers in Christ. The Spirit is willing, the flesh is a weak excuse for
those that don’t come clean before the Lord and understand that honesty is
still the best policy.
