Confession Is Good For The Soul
1 John 1:6-10 If we say that we have
fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: (7)
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one
with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all
sin. (8) If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth
is not in us. (9) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to
forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (10) If we
say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
(KJV)
We started this week talking about
continuing in the truth, and that the truth would set us free. It is the
truth that got you into the kingdom of God in the first place, you know,
when you realized that you were a sinner. You will find that as you
continue your walk in the Spirit on the path of life that the Lord will
reveal things to you that are now considered to be sin, things that need to
be dealt with in order to continue with Him. Once we are made aware of
these hidden things, then we need to acknowledge and confess them before
the Lord so that the healing and cleansing process can begin. Keep in mind
folks that we are now talking about an inward cleansing, we are no longer
concerned with outward carnal washings which can also be described as dead
works.
2 Corinthians 4:1-2 Therefore seeing we
have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; (2) But have
renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor
handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth
commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. (KJV)
The word ‘renounce’ means to, disown and
rid ourselves of. By continuing to do a personal inventory of your walk by
seeking the Lord on a daily basis, you will find things that our Lord says
are not right but rather are dishonest and will no longer work for you.
Some of these things you may not have even been aware of before, thinking they
were just trivial or even petty, but something our Lord says needs to be
confessed and dealt with.
Psalms 19:12-13 Who can understand his
errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults. (13) Keep back thy servant also
from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be
upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. (KJV)
It takes a Spiritual word, living waters,
to bring an inward cleansing. Many people have been set free for a season
and have walked with the Lord, but rather than continue in the faith and
allow this inward cleansing and healing process to continue, they end up
stuck in an outward religious show rather than dealing openly and honestly
from the heart.
Psalms 90:7-8 For we are consumed by
thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled. (8) Thou hast set our
iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance. (KJV)
The wrath of God is for those that ignore
His calling, the sons of disobedience, who spend more time covering up
things rather than dealing with them honestly and upright, and ridding
themselves from these secret sins that can cause separation between them
and God.
1 John 3:19-22 And hereby we know that we
are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. (20) For if our
heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. (21)
Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. (22)
And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments,
and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. (KJV)
You wonder why it seems like your prayers
are not being answered, or it seems like you have lost confidence in them?
That knocking on your heart is from the Lord so that He can enter in and
show you how to move forward in your walk on the path of life that He
ordained for you to walk on. So if there is something that is pricking your
heart today, will you be open to the correction, knowing that confession is
good for the soul?
