The Perfect Storm
James 1:3-6 Knowing this, that the trying
of your faith worketh patience. (4) But let patience have her perfect work,
that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. (5) If any of you lack
wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and
upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. (6) But let him ask in faith,
nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven
with the wind and tossed. (KJV)
Oh I know, you are going through life
experiencing the peace of God, things are rolling along fine, then bang it’s
like you hit a speed bump in life, or maybe a flat tire so to speak and it’s
time to pull over and make the repairs. In a time of trial, like with a
person drowning, many are more apt to panic, flailing away and going under,
rather than waiting on their lifeline. You have a Spiritual lifeline
available, and my prayer is that in a time of trial you will reach and look
above, and not below for a quick fix. We all as Christians will suffer
persecution for the gospels sake, now the question is how will you handle
them? Will you be perfect, mature and wait on the answer, because if not
then you will end up going under.
1 Corinthians 10:12-13 Wherefore let him
that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. (13) There hath no
temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who
will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the
temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. (KJV)
Remember how our Lord referred to Himself
as being the way, the truth, and the life? Our Lord is our only way of
escape from this present evil world so that you could endure the storms of
this life and come through them victoriously. God is faithful on His end,
now it is matter of you learning to let patience have its perfect work; in
other words, waiting on the Lord until you know your answer came from Him.
Oh and don’t think for a moment that the enemy won’t try to throw you a
changeup or a curve ball to get you swinging and missing, striking out with
the bases loaded.
Hebrews 2:1-3 Therefore we ought to give
the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time
we should let them slip. (2) For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast,
and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of
reward; (3) How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at
the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them
that heard him; (KJV)
If you prayed about a situation and
didn’t have peace and yet proceeded anyways, well, a bit childish to say
the least. Like those whose occupations have them working on a ship in the
seas, the first thing that they do before setting sail is to get an
accurate weather report before going out. However, if you decided to go out
without getting this report and then hit stormy seas, well, you put
yourself in harm’s way, or on the devil’s turf giving him a clear shot.
Thus the importance of getting to know the Lord personally for yourself so
that you will learn to let His peace rule in your life and not what looks
good to the outward man.
2 Corinthians 13:9-11 For we are glad,
when we are weak, and ye are strong: and this also we wish, even your perfection.
(10) Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I
should use sharpness, according to the power which the Lord hath given me
to edification, and not to destruction. (11) Finally, brethren, farewell.
Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God
of love and peace shall be with you. (KJV)
Paul’s prayer and desire for the people
was to see them grow up and mature in the realm of the Spirit, reaching
perfection or maturity, so that they could not only handle the storms of
this life, but learn to exercise their Spiritual senses so that they could
learn how to avoid some of the unnecessary ones as well. My prayer today is
that you will learn patience, Godly patience which is a virtue from above
to keep us above the storms and trials of this life. Kind of like Noah,
learning to rise above it rather than sinking and going under in a time of
trial.
