Reproof
2 Timothy 3:15-17 And that from a child
thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto
salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. (16) All scripture is
given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof,
for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (17) That the man of God
may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. (KJV)
All this week we have been on the topic
of enduring; whether we are enduring affliction or persecution from others,
or we are learning to endure chastening, allowing the Lord to make
necessary changes in our walk, you know like a diamond in the rough. As you
continue in the faith growing and maturing in the realm of the Spirit, you will
find that things that worked before are no longer working and need to be
changed or updated in order to move forward in your walk. You will find
that things that were not considered sin in your past, well, let’s just say
the path is getting a bit narrower, and you will need to remove a pound of
flesh to get through.
Proverbs 10:16-17 The labour of the
righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin. (17) He is in
the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof
erreth. (KJV)
The Bible is very specific in the fact
that not only those that hear the Word are blessed, but those that keep it
as well. One of the best ways to keep in good standing with the Lord is to
give ear to His word, yeah even when it involves self, looking honestly at
the person staring at you in the mirror.
Proverbs 5:12-13 And say, How have I
hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; (13) And have not obeyed
the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
(KJV)
You know, the Word of God is full of
teaching from His teachers that He chose to deliver His message. However,
if you don’t take the time to hear the Lord for yourself on where and how
He would have you to operate in His body of believers, well, don’t expect
much in return in the form of peace or joy.
Proverbs 1:25-28 But ye have set at
nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: (26) I also will laugh
at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; (27) When your fear
cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when
distress and anguish cometh upon you. (28) Then shall they call upon me,
but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find
me: (KJV)
You know that stuff about reaping what
you sow? Yeah, it will be ‘so what’ too many who have exchanged the truth
for a lie, and worship man’s creations and denominations rather than the
one true Creator. The Lord brings us His reproof, His correction in love,
so that we can receive the crown of life that He had His Son die for. Are
you giving ear to His correction, or have you found what many describe as
alternative lifestyles, which in reality is nothing more than hell instead
of a heavenly reward?
Hebrews 12:7-8 If ye endure chastening,
God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father
chasteneth not? (8) But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are
partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. (KJV)
So are you enduring to the end; in other
words, bringing forth the fruit of the Spirit to perfection? Now I know that
you wouldn’t go to the store and buy rotten fruit, so don’t expect our Lord
to deal with it either, especially when we have been given a book and a
mediator to show us a much better way of living, a reproof.
