Practice Makes Perfect
Matthew 5:46-48 For
if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the
publicans the same? (47) And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye
more than others? do not even the publicans so? (48) Be ye therefore
perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. (KJV)
Strong’s definition
for ‘perfect’:
5046 teleios (tel'-i-os); from 5056; complete
(in various applications of labor, growth, mental and moral character,
etc.); neuter (as noun, with 3588) completeness: KJV-- of full age, man,
perfect.
Ever have someone
ask you the question, now that you are walking with the Lord, “So you think
you are Mr. Perfect”? Of course they ask facetiously trying to find fault
with you and your belief in Christ. Actually the truth be known, our Lord
does expect us to be perfect, even though we are not yet perfected; the
term perfect and how it applies to our walk has a different meaning than
what many think. Keep this fact in mind, our Lord looks at the heart and
the motive of it, so if the motive is right for serving the Lord then we
have given Him someone to work with, someone who can grow and mature in the
realm of the Spirit. The term ‘even as’ in verse 48 means according with;
in other words, we are now serving a God of love, not some dictator who is
just looking for faults.
2 Corinthians
8:11-12 Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a
readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye
have. (12) For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according
to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not. (KJV)
A lot of people
come to the Lord and tell Him what they are not, instead of letting the
Lord show them who they are. We are like a diamond in the rough, in whom
our Lord is able to see the end result, and work with us where we are at,
now today, not where we think we should be, or who others try to tell us
who we should be. Even though the above verses are referring to a gift
given to the work of the Lord, who decides what is large or small anyways?
Remember the widow’s mites, and how our Lord acknowledged the motive of her
heart, giving everything that she had? If we are faithful in the least,
which can refer to any area of our walk, it is then that we will become
faithful in more, maturing and growing up according to our Lord’s standards
and not man’s.
2 Timothy 3:15-17
And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able
to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. (16)
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for
doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (17)
That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
(KJV)
Do you practice
what you preach; you know, making salvation a way of life and not just some
weekly, or should I say weakly Sunday ritual? You won’t get very far on the
path of life if you don’t take the time to get to know the Lord personally
and how His word applies in your life. Practice does make one perfect; so
go forth and let the Lord continue the good work He has begun within you.
