Parables

Mark 4:9-10 And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. (10) And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable. (KJV)

Thayer’s definition for ‘parable’:

3850  parabole-

1) a placing of one thing by the side of another, juxtaposition, as of ships in battle

2) metaphorically,

a) a comparing, comparison of one thing with another, likeness, similitude

b) an example by which a doctrine or precept is illustrated

c) a narrative, fictitious but agreeable to the laws and usages of human life, by which either the duties of men or the things of God, particularly the nature and history of God's kingdom are figuratively portrayed

d) a parable: an earthly story with a heavenly meaning

Now parables are not a couple of animals standing out in a field, but rather have a lot deeper meaning spiritually to those that have ears to hear. Speaking of deep, yeah listening to man’s interpretations and doctrines, things that they think they are hearing, well, that does involve a lot of bull, but not something you want to be stepping in. So faith doesn’t come to you by just hearing, but rather it is something that is developed and brought to life by hearing the truth, and knowing the Lord’s meaning and interpretation of the Word for yourself and how it applies to you personally. If you notice above in verse 10, it was when the disciples got alone with the Lord on a personal basis that, it was then that He was able to expound the true meaning of His word to them. You too will find that as you get into your own prayer closet alone with the Lord, that you too will experience the same thing for yourself.

Mark 4:11-13 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables: (12) That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them. (13) And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables? (KJV)

These scriptures were given for our benefit so that we could know, and not have to guess or just hope that we are on the right path. However, for those that don’t take the time to hear our Lord for themselves, well, that would put them in the category of the blind leading the blind, and you know where they end up don’t you? When you spend too much time listening to everyone else’s interpretations and not the Lord’s then you will end up like the many and not the few, those few that are truly chosen of our Lord to do His work.

Psalms 115:4-8 Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands. (5) They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not: (6) They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not: (7) They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat. (8) They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them. (KJV)

Ever go to places where they have a bunch of statues, how it seems they worship the creation more than the Creator? Our Lord has them pegged and put into a category that is not to flattering to say the least. The kingdom of God is described as a mystery; something man is not able to comprehend, but is only revealed to us through His Spirit. Do you have ears to hear today, and are you getting your information first hand?
