Not Self Willed

Isaiah 14:12-15 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! (13) For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: (14) I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. (15) Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. (KJV)

As we see, the fall began when someone became self willed; when we become “I” then it no longer involves God, but rather a path that leads to destruction. Sound familiar; who hasn’t tried and failed on their own? Maturing and growing up in the Lord is not by how many scriptures and verses you can rattle off, rather it is learning how to get “I” out of the way so someone else can take over.

Titus 1:7-9 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; (8) But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate; (9) Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. (KJV)

Strong’s definition for ‘self willed’:

829  authades (ow-thad'-ace); from 846 and the base of 2237; self-pleasing, i.e. arrogant: KJV-- self-willed.

Do take notice of what one of the first requirements is concerning the office of a bishop; at least one that is blameless in the sight of God. Yeah, getting self out of the way; which begins in your home life first and foremost. Many desire these positions and offices in the body of Christ, but only practice these things on Sundays, and not seven days a week, especially in their own homes. God is not going to use a novice; I mean, after all, aren’t you glad that He didn’t send a novice to die for our sins, or in a time of need that you don’t have a novice of a mediator to go to?

2 Peter 2:10-12 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. (11) Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord. (12) But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption; (KJV)

You know, your Bible says that God’s own people perish for lack of knowledge, so when you see the warnings and examples like the one above, yeah, they are talking about those that profess to be Christians however in works deny Him. Many are self willed because of their lack of knowledge into the realm of the Spirit, because they were more concerned with self and not the body of believers anymore.

Matthew 24:10-12 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. (11) And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. (12) And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. (KJV)

See the end result of what happens to those that are self willed, and why we are warned not to be that way? By the way you certainly do not want to follow the crowd because it clearly tells us where the many that were called of God are now heading, and how they ended up turning away, which can simply be described as becoming self willed.
