Lawfully Good
2 Timothy 2:3-5 Thou therefore endure
hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. (4) No man that warreth
entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him
who hath chosen him to be a soldier. (5) And if a man also strive for
masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully. (KJV)
Strong’s definition for ‘lawfully’:
3545 nomimos (nom-im'-oce); adverb from a
derivative of 3551; legitimately (specifically agreeably to the rules of the
lists): KJV-- lawfully.
We as believers in Christ have traded in
a bunch of old outdated rules and rituals, religions that could not bring
life to our inward man. We have now come into agreement with a new law, a
law of faith, which one needs to live by in order to be justified by God.
You will not find your answer in this fallen world that we are surrounded
by; however, you will only find your answer in what our Lord has
established in His word if you truly desire to be crowned with a crown of
life.
1 Peter 2:19-20 For this is thankworthy,
if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. (20)
For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall
take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it
patiently, this is acceptable with God. (KJV)
We have talked this week about enduring
chastening; or as we see above being buffeted or punished for our faults.
Now that you have been enduring the correction, you will find that not
everyone else is going to endure it, but rather they will take out their
frustrations on you instead. So just because you have been suffering for
well doing don’t take it personal or let it alter your walk, because this
is what is acceptable to God, and this is why He will crown you at the end
of your walk, or should I say the finish line.
Luke 6:22-23 Blessed are ye, when men
shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and
shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.
(23) Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is
great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the
prophets. (KJV)
Hey, have you done the leap lately; you
know, instead of taking things personal. The Lord says that you should be
leaping for joy; after all, it is the joy of the Lord that is your
strength. That great reward that the Lord is making reference to is a crown
of life, an eternal life in fact to those that run His race with patience
and endure to the end. So if your name is being cast as evil, know that you
are in good company; because it is not like they treated our Lord with much
respect when He walked this earth did they? In fact, when one looks back
through the Word you see that man had a crown of thorns for our Lord while
God had a different crown awaiting Him at the end.
James 5:10-11 Take, my brethren, the
prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of
suffering affliction, and of patience. (11) Behold, we count them happy
which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end
of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy. (KJV)
Suffering, affliction, patience, things
we don’t like to deal with, however, things that you will encounter on the
path of life that leads home. Are you still in this for the long haul, and
are you doing so lawfully, according to the law of faith from someone
holding the crown waiting until you arrive to receive it?
