Enduring Sound Doctrine
2 Timothy 4:3-5 For the time will come
when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall
they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; (4) And they shall
turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. (5) But
watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist,
make full proof of thy ministry. (KJV)
Just like with restaurants these days,
they offer a buffet table to draw the people in, so they have something that
appeals to everyone. The devil, over some six thousand years, has cooked up
his own table of delights, doctrines, so called faiths, and those
denominations that are like desserts, they look so appealing to the outward
but inwardly they are junk food that causes much more harm than good. Oh
and you will find that as you give ear and endure sound doctrine, that not
many around you are really going to be that receptive to the message,
especially as we get nearer to the end. Because of your diligence and
continuation in the Word of truth, yeah do expect opposition; and as you
endure on the path of life you will find yourself on a path that is not
heavily traveled.
Hebrews 12:6-8 For whom the Lord loveth
he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. (7) If ye endure
chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the
father chasteneth not? (8) But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all
are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. (KJV)
Do take notice of verse 7, because it
starts out with the word ‘if’. If we endure chastening; in other words, if
we are willing to take an honest open look at ourselves in the mirror and
then follow through with the correction, it is then that we are able to
stay in good standing with our Father in heaven. For many though, this is
an area where they fall away and no longer endure, because rather than take
up their own cross they would just as well leave it for someone else. Many
others are more apt to blame other people for their own faults and
shortcomings, things that they chose not to deal with themselves. So in
essence, one of the most important things that you are going to have to
learn to endure is chastening, but do take note of the fact that it is
because our Lord loves you, not because of hate.
2 Timothy 2:3-5 Thou therefore endure
hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. (4) No man that warreth
entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him
who hath chosen him to be a soldier. (5) And if a man also strive for
masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully. (KJV)
The word ‘hardness’ refers to sufferings
and afflictions; which is a part of one’s salvation. The question is not if
it happens, but rather how will you handle these situations when they do
occur? Sometimes in your own walk you will find that things that worked for
you in the past, your carnal way of thinking and handling things is no
longer going to work; so the question now becomes will you allow the Lord
to make the corrections in your walk so that you can move forward and get
past some of these hindrances? Kind of like updating your computer so that
when the enemy tries a different approach you will be prepared and ready.
Hebrews 11:24-27 By faith Moses, when he
was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; (25)
Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy
the pleasures of sin for a season; (26) Esteeming the reproach of Christ
greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the
recompence of the reward. (27) By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the
wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible. (KJV)
Without a vision God’s own people perish;
so the question today is who are you following, and what is the driving
force in your life? Is the Lord leading you, or are you looking for
something easier that you think will bring peace?
