Application Of The Word
The definition of ‘application’ is: the
act of applying, putting to or on; something applied, as a poultice;
earnest, attentive endeavor.
Beloved, the application of the Word in
your life will define who you are in Christ. Think about that for a moment.
The more that you apply the Word in your life the more you are molded and
shaped into Their image and likeness, and you are able to see more of who
you are in Christ; your place within His body, your calling in which He has
called you; the real you, not someone who is molded and shaped by the world
and its ways any longer.
Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing
of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and
perfect, will of God. (KJV)
John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy
truth: thy word is truth. (KJV)
Sanctify means to purify or refine. The
Holy Spirit leads and guides us into all truth which refines us as we
continue in the truth of the gospel of Christ. Thy Word, Christ, is truth;
and the words that He speaks unto us, they are Spirit and they are life,
and in them death is swallowed up in victory. So every time that we
overcome in an area death is swallowed up in victory; every time that we
are obedient in an area death is swallowed up in victory; every time that
we allow His words of life and truth to define who we are in Christ death
is swallowed up in victory.
It is like repainting a house that has
been weathered by the winds and rains over the years. First you have to
scrape off the old, sand it down, and then apply the new. If the work
needed to prepare for the application of the new coat of paint doesn’t
happen it won’t be long before the paint starts to chip away and you end up
back where you started or worse. Now think about that in the context of you
and the application of the Word in your life; first the Lord shows you what
area needs to be tended to in your walk, you start to work on it removing
the old thinking and ways (which as you know takes effort to get the flesh
in subjection to the Spirit), and in this process the Word refines or sands
down the rough places making smooth the path so that the new is able to
stick, firmly planted within you, grounded and settled on the sure
foundation of truth, Jesus Christ being the chief corner stone. All of this
so that whatever storms come your way you are able to withstand the
contrary winds of doctrines which will try to come in like a flood and beat
upon the house but won’t be able to penetrate because of your due diligence
in the application of the Word in your life according to the will of God; according
to His plan and purpose which He proposed through wisdom and power in and
through Christ, and not that of yourself.
So my brethren…
2 Corinthians 7:1 Having therefore these
promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of
the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. (KJV)
And let us hold fast the profession of
faith without wavering (for He is faithful that promised) in the continual
application of the Word in our life; for Christ is our life.
