A Good Work
Philippians 2:12-15 Wherefore, my
beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much
more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
(13) For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good
pleasure. (14) Do all things without murmurings and disputings: (15) That
ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the
midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in
the world; (KJV)
You know, the more you can get self out
of the way the more that our Lord would like to have His way in and through
you. Actually, that is what maturity in the Lord really is, not what you
think you can accomplish but what you are now allowing the Lord to work
through you, those things that are bringing Him good pleasure. So why all
the fussing and murmuring, and what are you disputing about?
Deuteronomy 8:5-7 Thou shalt also
consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the LORD thy
God chasteneth thee. (6) Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of the
LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him. (7) For the LORD thy God
bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and
depths that spring out of valleys and hills; (KJV)
You know, when the Lord is bringing
correction to your life it’s not because He is punishing you, but rather He
would like to bring you to a better place, one where He would have more of
an influence in your walk. Many are more apt to hold to the old because
they don’t like to ripple the water so to speak, or leave their carnal
comfort zones instead of moving on to maturity. The reason many are fussing
and whining and then getting into disputes with others is because they know
that they are not in the place that they should be with our Lord, and
rather than face facts they play the blame game. That fountain and depth
that the Lord would like to see you operating in is the depth of His word,
allowing rivers of living waters to spring forth from within you.
Psalms 103:21-22 Bless ye the LORD, all
ye his hosts; ye ministers of his, that do his pleasure. (22) Bless the LORD,
all his works in all places of his dominion: bless the LORD, O my soul.
(KJV)
Salvation is a two way street, we make
requests to God and take pleasure to see our prayers answered; however, how
few are answering our Lord’s requests in return? Given the fact that the
joy of the Lord is our strength no wonder so many of God’s own people are
down and out, weak, sickly, and in some cases asleep because they are not
diligent in their response to our Lord’s request as well. Remember it’s the
doers of the Word and not the hearers only that are actually going to
receive the Lord’s eternal reward of inheritance, while all the others will
have an eternity to ponder what could have been a joyful one instead.
Psalms 149:4 For the LORD taketh pleasure
in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation. (KJV)
Psalms 147:10-11 He delighteth not in the
strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man. (11)
The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his
mercy. (KJV)
We were created for the Lord’s good
pleasure, not only for us to enjoy His blessings, but that we would be a
blessing in return to Him by giving ear to His word and by making pleasing
Him our first priority.
Ephesians 2:9-10 Not of works, lest any
man should boast. (10) For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus
unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in
them. (KJV)
You know, I for one get tired of all
these deadbeats who keep telling me all the good works that they claim they
are doing for God instead of the other way around. There is a good work
going on, one that will last for eternity, is it working in you?
