Saving For A Rainy Day

Luke 12:15-17 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. (16) And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: (17) And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? (KJV)

Many people are of the mindset that if they work real hard today and save up, then some day they can kick back and relax. Some are willing to literally work themselves into the grave so that they can have enough for future generations; to preserve their legacy, so they say. However, how the Lord views these ideas is quite different than man.

Luke 12:18-21 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. (19) And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. (20) But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? (21) So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God. (KJV)

So what are you really working for? For those that wish to leave things to other people after them, is that really such a good idea and something you should be pursuing? You know, many people keep saving up hoping someday they will be satisfied. The Bible is quite clear in the fact that, the eyes of man are never satisfied, so with that in mind, why are so many getting worked up over things that are temporal and not eternal? If you are not using what God has provided for today, then how could He ever be your source and your provider if you are trying to build a kingdom here on earth which is getting ready to dissolve, and not partaking of something that will last for eternity?

Ecclesiastes 5:13-15 There is a sore evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for the owners thereof to their hurt. (14) But those riches perish by evil travail: and he begetteth a son, and there is nothing in his hand. (15) As he came forth of his mother's womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand. (KJV)

You know all those things that mankind says are so important, even more important than serving our Lord? Well, the fact is that none of it carries over into the next realm, does it? Can you really be content having food and raiment, having the mindset that you are only here for a short time compared to eternity? Why would anyone want to try to establish a kingdom here on earth that is going to dissolve shortly and pass away?

Jeremiah 17:10-11 I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings. (11) As the partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatcheth them not; so he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool. (KJV)

There are a lot of birdbrain ideas and doctrines going around that appeal more to the flesh than the Spirit, which the end result is just foolish. What are the motives and intents of your heart today? Is it to please the Lord, knowing that you are only here a short time, or are you intent on building up a name for yourself in a world that is getting ready to be torched?

Revelation 22:3-5 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: (4) And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads. (5) And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever. (KJV)

So while many are saving for a rainy day, there are still a few that are looking forward to a Sunny day that is never ending in a new world.

2 Corinthians 4:18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. (KJV)
