Perilous Times Ahead
2 Timothy 3:1-4 This know also, that in
the last days perilous times shall come. (2) For men shall be lovers of
their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to
parents, unthankful, unholy, (3) Without natural affection, trucebreakers,
false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, (4) Traitors,
heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; (KJV)
Ever see the signs that construction
crews put up to warn people of what is taking place ahead of them? They
will put up signs to warn the people of the dangers ahead, and how to be
prepared for a change and then avoid these dangerous situations as well.
Our Lord is quite specific in His word of what is going to take place as we
near the end, in these last days. While some of the feel good, ear tickling,
people talk of some big revival that is going to take place, we see that the
opposite is true; and for those that choose to live a Godly life will find that
they are more of a minority, and definitely not the majority.
2 Timothy 3:12-14 Yea, and all that will
live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. (13) But evil men and
seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. (14) But
continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured
of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; (KJV)
You know, the deceptions we see going on
around us are a result of those that have sold out and caved into the
majority, seeking to please the congregations more than God. Mankind has
twisted and turned the scriptures to try to make them fit into their
lifestyle, rather than adopting the lifestyle our Lord asked us to partake
of. So for every lust or desire of the flesh, one needs only to look around
and see that there is a denomination that will cater to their desires, and
not the Lord’s desire for their lives.
2 Peter 3:16-18 As also in all his
epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard
to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they
do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. (17) Ye
therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye
also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own
stedfastness. (18) But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and
Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. (KJV)
Thayer’s definition for ‘wrest’:
4761
strebloo-
1) to twist, to
turn awry
2) to torture, to
put to the rack
3)
metaphorically, to pervert, used of one who wrests or tortures language in
a false sense
The writer in the above verses was Peter
describing the writings of his brother in Christ, Paul the apostle. Paul
didn’t bend with the times, or sell out and peddle and twist the
scriptures, but rather suffered greatly for the stand he took and held to
as the truth. Keep in mind that was
some two thousand years ago and things have not gotten any better.
2 Timothy 3:15-17 And that from a child
thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto
salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. (16) All scripture is
given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof,
for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (17) That the man of God
may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. (KJV)
The Lord gave us His word so that we can
know, and not have to guess what is of God and what is of man. It is
profitable for you too Church to spend time in this Word daily, one on one
with the Lord so that you can be perfect, mature, and not taken in by a
bunch of false prophets who prey on the weak. Know that as you continue on
the path of life this day, that the signs are quite clear, perilous times
are ahead.
