Fit For Use
2 Timothy 2:20-21 But in a great house
there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of
earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. (21) If a man therefore
purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and
meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work. (KJV)
2 Timothy 2:20
[If a man therefore purge himself from
these, he shall be a vessel unto honour] If a man "cleanse" or
"purify" himself; compare the notes on <John 15:2>. The
word "these" refers, here, to the persons represented by the
vessels of wood and of earth-- the vessels made to dishonor, as mentioned
in the previous verse <2 Tim. 2:20>. The idea is, that if one would
preserve himself from the corrupting influence of such men, he would be
fitted to be a vessel of honor, or to be employed in the most useful and
honorable service in the cause of his Master. On the word
"vessel," see the notes at <Acts 9:15>. [And meet for the
master's use] Suitable to be employed by the Lord Jesus in promoting his
work on earth. (from Barnes' Notes)
If you had some people over to your house
and you offered them a drink, you wouldn’t offer it to them in a dirty
glass or coffee cup would you? There is a difference between who God says
is fit for His use, and who is really useless as far as the kingdom of God
goes; despite the fact that many that are not approved of God are a big hit
with mankind. A restaurant cannot serve food or drink in dirty vessels or
it won’t be long before they either go out of business or get shut down by
the health department. The Lord is not going to utilize a vessel either
even though outwardly it may appear clean but inwardly it is a dirty mess.
Proverbs 13:20-21 He that walketh with
wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. (21) Evil
pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed. (KJV)
There truly is a lot to be said for the
company you keep and associate with; after all, like the Word says, how can
two walk together unless they be in agreement? Some of these people, these
so called men and woman of God that you are trying to fit in with, well, it
would be of benefit for your walk if you took a hike and left them behind.
Many and much of what we see described as a church is nothing more than man’s
denominations, or their way of trying to keep God in a box dancing to their
tunes. Much of what we are surrounded with in terms of truth could be best
described as foolish, things dreamed up by foolish people.
Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore,
brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living
sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. (2)
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing
of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and
perfect, will of God. (KJV)
You will find that the Lord’s ways and
thoughts are much different than man’s; the question now becomes, are you
trying to fit into His realm, or are you trying to please a bunch of
foolish worldly people who claim to be one of the Lord’s?
