Chasten The Child
Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way
he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. (KJV)
We all began our lives as a child whether
in the realm of the flesh or the Spirit; we all began as infants with a
limited mindset as well. The physical and the Spiritual are mirrored, and
give us a good example of how we as newborn Christians, even though we are
in adult bodies, need to come to God as a child and consider Him to be our
Father from this point on.
1 Timothy 4:1-3 Now the Spirit speaketh
expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith,
giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; (2) Speaking lies
in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; (3) Forbidding
to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to
be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. (KJV)
You know, you can tell a child a lot of
stories, make believe things that appeal to the flesh but have no substance
as far as the Spirit goes. Many of man’s doctrines are based more on
appealing to the emotions and not the Spirit. If you notice lately, even
Hollywood has picked up on the fact that, if they make movies based on make
believe events and spice them up with special effects it will draw in big
crowds. Thus the reason why some depart from the faith, because having
begun in the Spirit many go chasing those things that appeal to the flesh,
and are no longer training themselves in the ways of the Lord.
Proverbs 19:18 Chasten thy son while
there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying. (KJV)
Oh boo hoo, poor baby is crying, time to
back off a bit right? Yeah, well get used to the crying, because parent, if
you don’t take charge now, what starts out as a little package only gets
bigger and waxes worse if not dealt with early and completely, and then
guess who will be the one doing the crying later on? You also, as a child
of God, need to give ear to our Lord’s chastening as well because I can
assure you that He will not back off no matter how many tears you shed.
Proverbs 3:11-12 My son, despise not the
chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: (12) For whom
the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he
delighteth. (KJV)
When we were children, newborns in this
realm, the chastening was severe because we would get into areas that were
dangerous if not dealt with. As one grows and matures they find the chastening
to be more of a correction and not as severe as in the beginning, because
we have more of an understanding of why the Lord corrects us, out of love
and not hate or anger.
Hebrews 12:7-8 If ye endure chastening,
God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father
chasteneth not? (8) But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are
partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. (KJV)
Those that ignore God are those that are
no longer a part of His family, but rather outcasts, because they chose not
to give ear to His correction. Those that do give ear to His correction
will find themselves in good standing with God, growing and maturing in the
things of His realm. God will chasten the child, but only if you are one of
His.
