Building A Solid Foundation

Proverbs 22:15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him. (KJV)

We began this week talking about training a child, not only the carnal one but our spiritual one as well. Let’s face it, we all entered the Lord’s realm with some childish baggage; and now our new life in Christ is one of retraining, allowing the Lord to weed out the old so that it can make room for a new way of thinking.

Acts 2:46-47 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, (47) Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. (KJV)

I bring this point up because of some of the foolish thinking and doctrines of man in thinking that they can help the Lord out. The people being described above are the disciples of the early Church, who had just been born again and were experiencing a new found way of life in the Spirit. Many today have been using the mindset of the world and its marketing strategies for building up a church or a following, rather than letting the Lord add to His Church such as should be saved. Those that truly know the Lord will have had this mindset driven from them, while others who begin in the Spirit think that they can perfect their walk according to their foolish fallen natures.

Matthew 16:16-18 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. (17) And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. (18) And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. (KJV)

You know, nothing is more foolish than to claim that you are one of the Lord’s people and then turn around and ignore His counsel. Our Lord is very explicit to point out the rock solid name that His Church is built on which is Christ, and then the fact that He would be the one doing the building part as well. Now anytime this order is reversed, you know like when mankind gets a hold of it and changes this order, you then have a organization that won’t stand, but rather it is about to fall. When mankind goes out and about trying to add to the Lord’s Church rather than letting Him add to it, well, you end up inviting a whole lot of people and doctrines into it that were not intended to be a part of it.

Psalms 127:1 Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. (KJV)

So who is really building you up today and is it someone that is rock solid, or is it something built more on sand, shifty and easily moved? Mankind has many foolish and hurtful doctrines, denominations, which are drowning them in destruction and despair, and not building them up the way that our Lord intended, which is foolish to say the least.

Acts 4:10-12 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. (11) This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. (12) Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (KJV)

The Bible is quite consistent to point out that only one name, one man, can be the builder while anyone else will be rejected. If you notice in verse 11 we see the term builders; many that have been called are building a case on something other than a solid foundation, one that will not hold up in our Lord’s court come the day of reckoning. God bless and stay built up in the faith, on the only foundation that will keep you built up.

1 Corinthians 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. (KJV)
