Tolerance
Titus 3:1-3 Put them in mind to be
subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to
every good work, (2) To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but
gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men. (3) For we ourselves also were
sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and
pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. (KJV)
One of the biggest accusations and form
of mudslinging against those that hold to sound doctrine is tolerance; that
Christians are not tolerant and loving, especially toward those that would
rather try to justify their lower sinful natures than learn to overcome
them by faith. Sometimes, there are those that forget how they were given
access to the kingdom of God and the fact that it certainly was not by
their works.
Titus 3:4-7 But after that the kindness
and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, (5) Not by works of
righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us,
by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; (6) Which
he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; (7) That being
justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of
eternal life. (KJV)
Actually, our Lord has been more than
tolerant of mankind; after all, it was mankind that sinned against God and
not the other way around, as many ignorant people today try to portray. Our
justification is by grace through faith; hearing the message being
delivered by God through Christ on a daily basis so that we can rightly
divide the word of truth. The more you walk in the Spirit, as well as the
truth of the gospel of Christ, the more you realize that the real plan of
salvation has nothing to do with your works but that it only has to do with
the completed work our Lord did on our behalf; which eliminates once and
for all boasting on man’s end.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is given
by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for
correction, for instruction in righteousness: (17) That the man of God may
be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. (KJV)
“Oh but you are so old fashioned and out
of touch with the new age way of thinking; you are not tolerant like a loving
God would be”. Well, by holding fast to our profession of faith knowing
first hand where it came from, you are actually letting others know what
our God does and does not tolerate in order to inherit eternal life. Many
times people that don’t want to learn to overcome sin will try to justify
it by pointing the finger at others, claiming that God loves everyone. Well
that’s true, it’s the sin part of the equation He doesn’t tolerate; thus
the reason why He sent His Son to show us how to be over comers and not
underachievers. In the end it’s the sin that is eliminated and not allowed
into His eternal realm, and so will be the end result to those that are
still clinging to sin and unbelief.
Titus 2:11-13 For the grace of God that
bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, (12) Teaching us that, denying
ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and
godly, in this present world; (13) Looking for that blessed hope, and the
glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; (KJV)
Even the people pointing their finger at
those that still hold to sound doctrine have heard and are without excuse.
You will find it better not to engage in silly petty arguments with them,
but rather walk away. God truly is a God of tolerance; now it’s up to you
to know for yourself what He does and does not tolerate in order to inherit
your eternal reward.
