Forsaking It All
Luke 14:33 So likewise, whosoever he be
of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple. (KJV)
I am sure when you came to the Lord your
intention was to make it all the way, from this realm into His eternal
inheritance. Just like with planning a journey, you decide what route you
are going to take, and then make sure you have the provisions needed to
make it to your destination. Well, Spiritually, our Lord clearly spells out
in His Word what it is going to take on our end to make it home, given the
fact that He did His part already.
John 10:7-9 Then said Jesus unto them
again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. (8) All
that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not
hear them. (9) I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved,
and shall go in and out, and find pasture. (KJV)
Now keep in mind that we just got done
discussing the word ‘all’; so for each and every believer in Christ ‘all’
can mean different things depending on what we consider near and dear to us
as far as carnal things. Anything or anyone that we hold in higher regard
than our Lord, anything that we would allow to come before our commitment
with Him is considered robbery and thievery, because we rob the opportunity
to let the Lord work on our behalf.
Mark 12:28-30 And one of the scribes
came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had
answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? (29) And
Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel;
The Lord our God is one Lord: (30) And thou shalt love the Lord thy God
with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with
all thy strength: this is the first commandment. (KJV)
So who is really number one on your
priority list? Well, the Lord can be if you decide to love Him with all
your heart and not allow anything or anyone else to get in the way. The
thief comes with many disguises, and can present himself to you with a deal
to good to be true based on your outward sight and not your Spiritual
insight. The question now becomes will you hold fast to your first love, or
will you fall for a cheap imitation and end up pursuing a lie which always
leads to a dead end.
Williams New Testament translation
of Revelation 2:1-4
1. "To the messenger of the church
in Ephesus write: The One who is holding the seven stars in His right hand
and is walking among the golden lampstands speaks as follows: 2. "I
know what you have done; your hard work and patient endurance; that you
cannot tolerate wicked persons; that you have tested those who claimed to
be apostles although they were not, and have found them to be imposters, 3.
You are showing patient endurance, and you have borne it for my sake, and
have not grown weary. 4. But I hold it against you that you do not love me
as you did at first.
You know, when you make a commitment, say
a marriage one for instance, you told that person that they would be your
first love and you wouldn’t allow anyone or anything get in to change it.
When one or the other party finds out that this is not the case, well, let’s
just say something nasty is about the hit the fan. Our Lord does not
appreciate being put on the back burner either, or moved down on or even
out of your priority list. Bottom line folks, either you forsake all, or
you may just find yourself forsaken someday when seeking entrance into your
eternal inheritance.
