Flee From Idolatry

1 Timothy 6:9-11 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. (10) For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (11) But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. (KJV)

While some were coveting after the things of this life they were missing out and in error concerning the things that pertained to the Spiritual one. Not only that, but while they were in hot pursuit of what we will refer to today as idolatry, they had allowed their shield of faith to drop down, and were getting hit and pierced with many fiery darts that were resulting in the form of sorrows instead of joy.

Psalms 37:3-5 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. (4) Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. (5) Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. (KJV)

Consider this fact if you would, now that the Lord has taken out the old stony heart and replaced it with a new one then would not all those old worldly desires of it be gone away also? With a new heart would come a whole new desire; one now looking more to the eternal realm and away from this earthly realm. Ponder this fact also; when you who are parents brought children into this world you made plans and preparations for them so that all that was needed was prepared. Believe it or not, our Lord has done the same thing for His people as well; making and providing for all of their need before the foundation of this world. Old things, old ways and thoughts should now be done away; all things, including your desire should now be set on things above and not on things below, so that you can walk in a newness of life and the liberty you have available in Christ.

Colossians 3:5-7 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: (6) For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: (7) In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. (KJV)

Thayer’s definition for ‘covetousness’:

4124  pleonexia- greedy desire to have more, covetousness, avarice

When one sees the word ‘idolatry’ it refers to image worship, or another way of putting it, chasing an imagination. Have you ever been in a room with a dog or a cat and you shined something on the wall, something that made a reflection, and then you watched the animal chase after it. Following much effort, and I am sure much frustration on the animals part, in the end it was all a hoax, all the while those that were pulling the prank got a good laugh out of it. Well Church, these imaginations, all this idolatry and idol worship, things the so called church is chasing after is drawing some laughs and applause from the enemy as well, watching people chase after things that will never bring peace.

Ephesians 5:3-8 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; (4) Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. (5) For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. (6) Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. (7) Be not ye therefore partakers with them. (8) For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (KJV)

You know folks, Church, you should know better than to support these false prophets who promise liberty but in reality are the servants of corruption. One needs only to go back throughout the Bible and see how idolaters did not fare well with our Lord. Today we still have many spiritual idolaters, preaching things which in reality end up drawing people away from our Lord and not closer. Once you have entered the realm of covetousness you have returned back to the darkness you were once delivered from, and eventually if not dealt with, your latter end will be worse than you were in the beginning.

2 Peter 2:1-4 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. (2) And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. (3) And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not. (4) For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; (KJV)

The word ‘privily’ means crafty, sneaky; these false prophets trying to mix and match the things of this life with the things of God. Many of these false prophets have fallen from grace because they have sold out, and have fallen for a cheap hoax rather than the truth that would set them free as well as the congregation they oversee. Not only are there many preaching this stuff, but many are falling for it as well, basically twisting and perverting the scriptures to make it look and appear that God is more concerned with financial wealth and prosperity than Spiritual.

1 Corinthians 10:13-14 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. (14) Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry. (KJV)

You know, there is nothing new under the sun, God knew and provided all that was needed for His people so that they could be winners, conquerors. Instead of lining up like a sheep headed for the slaughter and supporting idolatry, you should be fleeing from this spiritual plague that has taken down many who got caught up in the false image worship.
