What’s His Name?
Matthew 16:13-15 When Jesus came into the
coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men
say that I the Son of man am? (14) And they said, Some say that thou art
John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the
prophets. (15) He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? (KJV)
Have you ever been introduced to someone
and then forgotten their name? Then when you went to describe this person
to someone else you kept asking them if they knew what’s his name, and you
would continue describing the person to see if they knew who you were
talking about? Well our Lord was sent to this earth to bring us God’s plan
of salvation and reconciliation, and to reveal a name that His people would
use that would truly identify them with Him. As we see, there were many
names thrown out there to see if it was the one, then it was narrowed down
to who do you personally say and believe is the name?
Matthew 16:16-19 And Simon Peter answered
and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. (17) And Jesus
answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and
blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. (18)
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will
build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. (19) And
I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever
thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou
shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. (KJV)
You know, today I hear so many teach and
preach in the name of Jesus and end their prayers in this name also; but as
I look at the Word, I see our Lord was revealing something more that made it
complete. In fact this name was not revealed by flesh and blood; in other
words, by man’s limited carnal thinking, but came from a source above and
beyond this fallen realm. The name of Christ that was revealed then took on
a further dimension because it is now described as a rock, a foundation, on
which the true Church would be built. This name was also described as the
keys of the kingdom of God so that you could see and operate in the inner
realm, no longer separated and kept in the dark and on the outside by the
veil that separated the way to the throne. Again keep in mind that the name
of Jesus is a common name that describes many people, but once you add the
name of Christ you have narrowed the field and are now describing a
complete name, the one our Lord acknowledged as being His. The fact that
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever, would it not be
safe to say that this complete name is something that our Lord gives
credence to today as well?
Acts 4:9-12 If we this day be examined of
the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole; (10)
Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name
of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the
dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. (11) This is
the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head
of the corner. (12) Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is
none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (KJV)
Well here we see Peter again, and once
again we see Him operating in the complete name, which made an impotent man
complete and whole as well. When someone is described as being impotent it
refers to someone who is unable to give life or produce a new life as well.
When I hear so many teach and preach in the name of Jesus but leave Christ
out of their teachings and prayers, I see many who are spiritually impotent
and unable to tap into the source of life, that being Christ. Again, we see
God describing through Peter what the stone is, that many build or claim to
be building a church on leave out and reject. As I listen and watch many
today teach and preach, many leave out the complete name that would make
them complete as well as those around them, basically building their
buildings on a sand foundation. By the way, the rock or stone that the true
Church of God is built upon is not Peter as some have described, but rather
Peter himself is quite explicit in pointing out that the name of Jesus
Christ is the only foundation that God gives credence to.
1 Corinthians 3:10-11 According to the
grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid
the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed
how he buildeth thereupon. (11) For other foundation can no man lay than
that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. (KJV)
Paul got this revelation first hand as
well, and knew that the only foundation He could rely on and build upon is
Jesus Christ, because anything else would not hold up or be acceptable.
What are you building your foundation on today, and do you know for sure it
is rock solid, something that is Spiritual, and not based on man’s carnal
interpretations?
Psalms 127:1 Except the LORD build the
house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city,
the watchman waketh but in vain. (KJV)
Wouldn’t it be frustrating if you spent a
lot of time and effort building a house only to find out it wasn’t up to
code? Now multiply that by eternity, and think how frustrating it is for
those that didn’t take the time to hear the Lord on who He is and what name
He goes by. I mean, if you were hired by someone to build a house and then
built the house without taking the time to read the blueprints, as well as knowing
who you were building the house for; wouldn’t that just be foolish to say
the least? And yet isn’t that just how haphazard many are with their
salvation, taking someone else’s word for it and not knowing for themselves
who their Spiritual foreman is?
2 Timothy 2:19 Nevertheless the
foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them
that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from
iniquity. (KJV)
The foundation of God stands sure, and so
will all those who know His name and are known of Him also. As rude as it
is to forget a person’s name and stand around asking what’s his name, how
much more rude is it to our Father, to be doing the same thing, asking
what’s His name and not be given the complete name that was provided for
our benefit.
