Building Confidence
Psalms 127:1 Except the LORD build the
house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city,
the watchman waketh but in vain. (KJV)
Who are you building your confidence in
today, is it truly the Lord and what you are allowing Him to work through
you, or do you still hold more to your outward vision, things that are
shaky and unstable? You are the house of God, one our Lord is building, one
that is meant to withstand all the storms and winds of doctrines that are
blowing all around us, things that tear down rather than stay built up. So
are you allowing the Lord to build you up, putting your faith and trust in
Him, or is the house shaken and ready to fall over?
Philippians 1:3-7 I thank my God upon
every remembrance of you, (4) Always in every prayer of mine for you all
making request with joy, (5) For your fellowship in the gospel from the
first day until now; (6) Being confident of this very thing, that he which
hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus
Christ: (7) Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I
have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and
confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace. (KJV)
The Bible tells us that we should pray
one for another, and that we should stay in prayer (communication) with our
Father always. Paul’s prayer for the people was that they would build their
confidence and faith in the good work that the Lord began in their life,
and desires to accomplish if they are willing. Mankind and his doctrines
will try to point people away from the one builder (the one name that the Church
is and should be built on) pointing them to other builders who are trying
to establish a foundation on something other than the Rock, which is rather
a crock.
Ephesians 2:19-22 Now therefore ye are no
more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of
the household of God; (20) And are built upon the foundation of the apostles
and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; (21) In
whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in
the Lord: (22) In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of
God through the Spirit. (KJV)
We have been talking this week about a
building; no, not that huge one on the corner of the street with the big
steeples, but rather a spiritual building of God. You are that building;
and as we have seen throughout the Word the cornerstone of our holy temple
is Jesus Christ; that stone that ties the whole building together and keeps
it in place. Without faith, our ability to hear the message being delivered
by Christ, or another way of looking at it, without Christ, we will not be
able to understand God’s spiritual blueprint of how He would like His
building constructed so that it will stand. You are that building; you are
that holy temple, and your trust and confidence should be getting built up
on a daily basis through the Spirit, so that you can withstand all the
fiery darts of the wicked one that would like to burn your house down.
Ephesians 4:15-16 But speaking the truth
in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even
Christ: (16) From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted
by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in
the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of
itself in love. (KJV)
You know, it is vital that you know
Christ so that He is the one building you up, or should I say that you are
growing up into Him in the way He intended for you to be, that person He
saw before the foundation of the world. It is by a working knowledge of who
you are in Christ that will allow you to find your place in His body so
that you can be fitly joined together with Him doing the things that are
effectual, getting the results He intended. Just like Peter described, we
are like living stones; we all have our place in the body of Christ and
need to hold up our end, as well as each other so that the building doesn’t
fall down.
Ephesians 3:11-15 According to the
eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: (12) In whom we
have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him. (13) Wherefore
I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.
(14) For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ, (15) Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, (KJV)
You know Church, this building that the
Lord is constructing, the true Church of God, has an eternal purpose which
is built on an eternal foundation. The only way that you will be able to
access God is through Jesus Christ, so that you can let Him build you up
and remain a part of the family of God, boldly and with confidence. All
that live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution, because the enemy
of our Lord who is described as the spirit of antichrist will do all he can
to distract you and keep you from building a firm foundation, a rock solid
relationship with the Lord, built on a trust and confidence in His Word.
1 John 3:21-24 Beloved, if our heart
condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. (22) And whatsoever we
ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things
that are pleasing in his sight. (23) And this is his commandment, That we
should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another,
as he gave us commandment. (24) And he that keepeth his commandments
dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us,
by the Spirit which he hath given us. (KJV)
You know Church, if you let the peace of
God rule in all your decisions, then you can establish and maintain a
confident relationship with Him. The Lord has given us a name, a rock solid
mediator that we can confidently and boldly access God through, that being Christ
Jesus. As long as you let the Lord build your house you will remain
confident in the good work that He has begun in you, and is willing to do
if you continue in the faith grounded and settled and be not moved away
from the only hope of the gospel.
