I Don’t Care

Philippians 4:6-7 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. (7) And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (KJV)

Thayer’s New Testament definition for ‘careful’:

3309  merimnao-

1) to be anxious, to be troubled with cares

2) to care for, to look out for (a thing)

a) to seek to promote one's interests

b) caring or providing for

Williams New Testament translation Philippians 4:6-7

6. Stop being worried about anything, but always, in prayer and entreaty, and with thanksgiving, keep on making your wants known to God. 7. Then, through your union with Christ Jesus, the peace of God, that surpasses all human thought, will keep guard over your hearts and thoughts.

Have you ever meet or have known someone that just didn’t seem to care about things, especially trivial matters? How about when people like that are portrayed either in the movies or on TV, people that live their lives without cares or being anxious, very admirable qualities are they not? Think about this fact as a Christian, just exactly what is it that you could change anyway by your caring or getting all wrapped up in things, and let’s face it, mostly things that pertain to the carnal more than the Spiritual? When you committed your life to the Lord you then committed your life to the way that He would have you to live now, no longer based on what you think or even feel anymore. So again, ask yourself honestly, ‘why are you caring for things that you can’t change anyway?’, at least not for the better I should say.

Matthew 6:27-29 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? (28) And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: (29) And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. (KJV)

Oh, that thing you got so wrapped up about and concerned with, even to the point of worrying about it, just exactly what did you think that you could do to change the outcome? As a Christian believer, a child of God, once you pray about a situation it is now expected of you to continue on in your walk with the Lord and leave the answer to Him. But how many times have you tried to manufacture your own answer, in your own timeline based more on your carnal thoughts and desires, and not what our Lord truly desired for you? If the answer didn’t come the way you thought it should, or in a timeline that you were expecting, then one of two things happened; either it was never the Lord’s desire for you in the first place, or you need to stay patient and let patience have its perfect and complete work so that you are not lacking.

Isaiah 46:9-13 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, (10) Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: (11) Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it. (12) Hearken unto me, ye stouthearted, that are far from righteousness: (13) I bring near my righteousness; it shall not be far off, and my salvation shall not tarry: and I will place salvation in Zion for Israel my glory. (KJV)

Let’s look at our prayer life from a different perspective today. When you go to the Lord in prayer are you really seeking the things that are beneficial to your walk in the Spirit, or are you looking more to your own desires? If your prayer is in line with what the Lord desires for you then it is a done deal. However, if it is not something the Lord intended for your life, something that He knows is not of benefit to you, something that He did not ordain for you, then it is not happening and not something that you should keep pursuing either. Again the reminder, which of you taking thought can add one cubit to your stature?

Psalms 55:22 Cast they burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved. (KJV)

What if you really cast your burdens and cares upon the Lord and then actually left them in His hands, what would your life really be like? Your assignment for today is to remind yourself of who is doing the caring for you and who it is that you prayed to. Now if you think that you can do a better job than He can, fine, it’s all yours. However, if you know that our Lord is able to do above and beyond all that you could have ever thought of or asked for, then be one of the few who can truly say “I don’t care”.
