The Promised Land

Deuteronomy 8:1-3 All the commandments which I command thee this day shall ye observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers. (2) And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no. (3) And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live. (KJV)

Your time here on planet earth is a short probationary period so to speak, a time for the Lord to see who is willing and obedient, to serve Him with the motive of love. Just like with the children of Israel, you too have been delivered from a life of bondage in sin and misery to a life of liberty in Christ, to walk a new path of life that leads to a promised land as well. You know, the devil tried to tempt our Lord shortly after His forty day fast the same way he tries to tempt God’s people today. The devil tried to get the Lord to look and seek His provision in the physical realm, while the Spirit was looking to the Word of God for the answer. You too will find the same temptations in your walk on the path of life, the enemy is going to do all he can to get you to look at outward things for your answer, while the Holy Spirit will be pointing you and encouraging you to rely more and more on the Word of God to be your source of life.

1 Corinthians 10:1-3 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; (2) And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; (3) And did all eat the same spiritual meat; (KJV)

I would like to reiterate the fact that when you are baptized into Christ it is something that needs to become a way of life if you truly desire to inherit all the promises of God. The same God that planned a way of escape for the children of Israel has made a way of escape for you also, so that you can fulfill your calling in the body of Christ and walk the spiritual path of life our Lord provided for you before the foundation of the world.

1 Corinthians 10:4-6 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. (5) But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. (6) Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. (KJV)

Once again we see the word ‘many’ being used; and once again folks, it doesn’t look good for the home team. That same Lord that made provisions for these people to get through the wilderness has made provisions and provided us with His Spirit so that we could walk the path by faith, and not be overthrown by the sight of our outward vision. So, whose eyes are you looking through; your limited carnal vision, or are you able to see through the eyes of the Spirit the clear cut way of escape our Lord provided for you today? Are you being overthrown and overwhelmed by the things of this life, or are you walking in the victory our Lord promised for His people to walk in?

1 Corinthians 10:7-11 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. (8) Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand. (9) Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. (10) Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer. (11) Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. (KJV)

When you see this word ‘admonition’ it means to warn or call attention to. When you are reading the accounts that took place in the Bible they are reminders so that you won’t fall for the same deceptions as many have before you. Simply put, it all comes to down to faith, their ability to believe and trust in God who had made a way of escape for them, the same God that provided us a way of escape in the Spirit so that we would no longer have to be in bondage to the flesh and its limited fallen realm.

Hebrews 4:1-2 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. (2) For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. (KJV)

The Bible says that we should labor not for the meat that perishes but for the meat, or I could say the meat of the Word, that will last for eternity. Our labor, the goal of the believer each and every day is to hear the Lord and then enter into His rest, which means to cease from our own works. Are you willing to let go of the old so that you can walk a new path of life, or will you continue to hold to the old and perish in that realm? Without faith it is impossible to please God; anything that is not something that you can do faithfully, is sin.

Deuteronomy 8:4-6 Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years. (5) Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the LORD thy God chasteneth thee. (6) Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him. (KJV)

Now keep in mind that they didn’t have Wal-Mart stores to stop and shop in on their journey through the wilderness, and yet God was still able to supply all their need, whether they believed it or not. When looking at these accounts one can’t help but think “who better to be leading them than God Himself”? Now ask yourself, can you think of someone better than the Lord to be leading and guiding you this day? Jesus Christ was our forerunner, one who walked a perfect path of life and made it to the Promised Land, now seated at the right hand of the Father. Is He leading you today?
