Something’s Fishy
John 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I
have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit,
and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the
Father in my name, he may give it you. (KJV)
Keep this thought in mind, when you ask
something of our Lord in His name then you are asking for what is needed to
stay in good standing with Him. You have now discarded the ways of this
life and the fallen thought process of the past, and are now seeking your
need according to His riches and glory which is in Christ.
Luke 11:11-13 If a son shall ask bread of
any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish,
will he for a fish give him a serpent? (12) Or if he shall ask an egg, will
he offer him a scorpion? (13) If ye then, being evil, know how to give good
gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the
Holy Spirit to them that ask him? (KJV)
Luke 11:10-11
We know there is the utmost similitude
between some fish, especially those of the eel kind, and serpents; and that
there are stones exactly similar to bread in their appearance; from which
we may conjecture that our Lord intended to convey the same idea of
similitude between an egg and a scorpion. Some of the white scorpions when
their tail is curled up can have the same appearance as an egg. (from Adam
Clarke Commentary)
A fallen mankind knows that they need to
provide for their children, and for many of them the only love and
affection they know how to give is in the carnal realm and not the
Spiritual one. I mean for you that have been or are parents, it’s not like
you walked into the back bedroom one day and went, “oh yeah, we have a
baby, I must have forgot about him or her” Yet that is what we are telling
Father when we keep seeking and asking for things that pertain to this
life, rather than seeking the things that are eternal. God has already
promised you the things you would need for the outward man, now you need to
find out the things that pertain to the inward man if you truly desire to
make it to your eternal destination.
1John 5:13-15 These things have I written
unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that
ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of
God. (14) And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask
any thing according to his will, he heareth us: (15) And if we know that he
hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we
desired of him. (KJV)
When you ask and seek for the right
reason then you will not be deceived, or end up getting stung by something
you thought would be the answer. Your confidence and trust is built by
knowing the name of the Son of God, and knowing the difference between what
is of God and what is an imitation of the enemy, something that may appear
healthy but can have a negative effect. So if something smells fishy, it
would do you good to double check and make sure you are asking and seeking
those things which are above, and not something that will be harmful to
your Spiritual health.
