Good For Nothing
John 15:5-6 I am
the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the
same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. (6) If a man
abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men
gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. (KJV)
You know, a lot
of people do commit their lives to the Lord and start out good, tasting and
partaking of the goodness of the Lord. A lot of these same people fall away
as well, getting cut off from the source of life and wither away. There are
a lot of men, a lot of organizations that are willing to gather you up and
bring you into their religious folds and congregations, which in the end
will make for a bigger bonfire.
Hebrews 11:6 But
without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God
must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently
seek him. (KJV)
Maybe the reason
you started looking elsewhere to find peace and contentment was because of
a lack of diligence in following through with your commitment with God. You
didn’t get what you wanted when you wanted it, so now what, you are going
to throw a fit and move on? Without faith, without making your walk with the
Lord your first priority and love, you won’t make it, but rather you end up
falling away. Without continuing in this faith, hearing where the Lord
would have you to walk this day, then you have entered a realm of
impossible, on your own again.
Romans 9:31-33 But
Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to
the law of righteousness. (32) Wherefore? Because they sought it not by
faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that
stumblingstone; (33) As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a
stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall
not be ashamed. (KJV)
One of the
biggest traps I see happen to people is that they hear the Lord and walk in
His liberty for a season then someone comes along and tells them that they
need to do some work of the law to keep in good standing with Him. No
matter how these works manifest; whether water baptisms, circumcisions, or
any other carnal ordinance is just a waste of time, basically telling our
Lord He didn’t do a complete job on our behalf. Last time I looked, the
Lord fulfilled the law for us so that we would not have to be burdened by
it any longer. The just shall live by faith, period, end of story.
Galatians 3:1-3 O
foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the
truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth,
crucified among you? (2) This only would I learn of you, Received ye the
Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? (3) Are ye so
foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? (KJV)
Let’s replace the
word Galatians with Christians in verse one and see if that has more of an
impact. No matter who you are, or who you think you are, anytime you go back
to works you have fallen from grace.
Galatians 3:4-5 Have
ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain. (5) He therefore
that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth
he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? (KJV)
The greatest
miracle that could ever take place was you being born again into the realm
of the Spirit. Are you so foolish; with all of the things that you have
suffered from your vain dead end past trying to serve God by vain dead end
rituals, are you going to stay in good standing with our Lord by the works
of the law, or by hearing of faith? Because without Him we are good for
nothing.
Matthew 5:13 Ye
are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith
shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out,
and to be trodden under foot of men. (KJV)
Jeremiah 13:10 This
evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination
of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship
them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing. (KJV)
