Carnal Crutches

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. (6) In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (KJV)

When one really stops and ponders this new life in Christ that we have committed ourselves to, doesn’t it all come down to eliminating all the carnal crutches that we have leaned on in our past and walk according to our new inward Spiritual senses? Not a real easy path at times is it? Sometimes the Lord will have you walk a direction totally contrary to what looks best to the outward vision, and now the question becomes, will you continue?

Luke 18:22-24 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. (23) And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich. (24) And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! (KJV)

A rich man inquired of the Lord what was missing in his life, knowing that deep down something was not quite right. Despite all the messages we hear today concerning prosperity and how the Lord desires for His people to be rich, we see according to the Lord’s understanding the opposite is true. Mankind thinks that if he has more money and is rich then he has it made. But the truth be known, is that the riches of this life are more of a crutch, something for people to lean on rather than trusting the Lord as their source. Take note of verse 23, because we see that a very rich man was very sorrowful.

Ecclesiastes 5:10-12 He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity. (11) When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good is there to the owners thereof, saving the beholding of them with their eyes? (12) The sleep of a labouring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much: but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep. (KJV)

How did you sleep last night? Why are God’s people chasing things, imaginations that will never bring peace but rather heartache and misery? Keep in mind who God had write these verses, yup a man named Solomon who had more wealth and wisdom than anyone else of his era. What was his conclusion to all these things?

Ecclesiastes 5:13-15 There is a sore evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for the owners thereof to their hurt. (14) But those riches perish by evil travail: and he begetteth a son, and there is nothing in his hand. (15) As he came forth of his mother's womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labor, which he may carry away in his hand. (KJV)

So what did you think would bring peace and contentment to your life today? Well, if it involves anything other than the Lord, not happening.
