What About Christ?

Romans 8:9-11 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. (10) And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. (11) But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. (KJV)

All this week we have been looking at Christ, and how many or should I say how few look within and see who it is that is working within them. Having just dealt with another of man’s holidays, this time the one they call Easter, many talk of a resurrection, in fact they talk of the resurrection of Jesus the man, but how few talk of another resurrection, that being Christ, who also was resurrected from the dead.

2 Corinthians 5:20-21 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. (21) For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. (KJV)

Christ the Son of the living God, the Spirit that lead Jesus of Nazareth, took upon Himself the sin of the whole world so that we could be in right standing with God again. It was Christ who knew no sin; after all Jesus of Nazareth was tempted in every manner like we are, yet because of his obedience to the Spirit of Christ He was able to overcome the temptation and live a life without sinning. So again, we see that it was Christ, who knew no sin and who died for our sins. How exactly did Christ die?

Romans 6:20-23 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. (21) What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. (22) But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. (23) For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (KJV)

If the wages of sin is death, then it would be fitting to say that someone who took this sin unto Himself would have to pay the price, which would be death. Now we know that Jesus of Nazareth died on the cross, having lived a life without sin, so what is this death that is being referred to, and who paid that price?

Acts 2:29-32 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. (30) Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; (31) He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. (32) This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. (KJV)

You know, there was another death that took place some two thousand years ago, and that death sentence was carried out so that we would not have to partake of the second death. This death that took place was a spiritual death, Christ the Son of the living God spent what must have seemed like an eternity separated from the Father, for three days and three nights in hell, according to the scriptures. After all, how could He have rose with the keys of hell and death unless He went there and paid the price, spiritually on our behalf?

Hebrews 9:27-28 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: (28) So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. (KJV)

Romans 5:6-8 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. (7) For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. (8) But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (KJV)

While many look at what the man Jesus of Nazareth did, suffering death on the cross, few have acknowledged what Christ has done on our behalf as well, spending three days and three nights in hell. Again, if the wages of sin is death, then who would have paid that price so that we would not have to suffer the second death?

Ephesians 4:18-21 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: (19) Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. (20) But ye have not so learned Christ; (21) If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: (KJV)

So, what about Christ, and what have you learned? Are you looking more to the inward man to know and understand the mystery of the gospel, or are you being blindsided with carnal interpretations of mankind leaving out the most important part of the equation, that being Christ in you the only hope of glory? While so many give credence to Jesus of Nazareth, few understand that the truth was within Him all along.

Philippians 2:6-11 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: (8) And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. (9) Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: (10) That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; (11) And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (KJV)

While we give credit where credit is due, by acknowledging the Son of man, in order to come to a complete and full understanding of our Lord we should be confessing Jesus Christ, and how of these two, He made one new man. So while many see the resurrection of Jesus the man, few understand the resurrection of Christ, and what He accomplished on our behalf, as well as the price He paid for us.

Acts 2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. (KJV)
